Consuming fast food is not good for anyone involved. It causes extreme health concerns including a higher risk in disease and acquiring diabetes due to poor nutrition and sanitation in the products. Fast food is also responsible for a decline in the United States’ reputation and even harms the budgets for child public education. It is nearly impossible to defend the fast food industries and all of the horrible consequences involved with consuming fast food after reading the argument Schlosser presented in Fast Food Nation. Fast food consumption is continuing to completely destroy the nation’s economy and spread disease-causing bacteria all over the world.
Fast food restaurants often give false perceptions of their foods. In recent years, people have actually launched lawsuits to fast food restaurants because they are vulnerable. Zinczenko’s article as a whole shows how fast food has affected our society. Some of his main points are influential, but as a whole I disagree on some things because fast food is not the main cause of obesity. I agree with Zinczenko on his critical viewpoint on how he looks at the fast food industry.

Knowing the economic status of the neighborhood their store was in, the customers did not feel that Company Q was being fair to them by supplying such high-margin items. Company Q’s was not socially responsible when they chose to allow their day-old food items to be thrown away instead of being donated to the local area food bank. They chose to show their distrust in their own employees, stating the possibility of the products to be stolen by their employees. Employees need to feel trusted and a valuable asset to the local grocery store chain.
He insists they would not eat as much if they knew that it was bad for them or if the industry put nutrition labels on their food. My outlook on this topic varied significantly from that of Zinczenko’s. I feel that it is not the fault of the fast food company. Neither would I put blame on the younger children who eat fast food. I would put most of the culpability on the parents who do not teach their kids how to maintain a healthy lifestyle and buy their children unhealthy food. I disagree completely that we as Americans suffer from lack of information about nutrition in fast food.
Food served today does not come with proper warning labels. The food industry is marketing to a group of children and since there are no warnings, it will cause more problems. Problems like sickness, obesity, & litigious parents. Honestly the obesity problem in America wont is solved quickly. There is so much money to be made and for a fast food company to do something that would endanger their revenue is unlikely to happen.
There should not be open campus at schools. The school would lose profits from the lunches, the food consumed by the students outside of school will most likely be unhealthy, and the students would not be under any supervision. Open campus would have a negative effect on schools and its students. The students would leave during lunchtime to get themselves McDonalds or Burger King to eat. Meanwhile, our already poor school loses profit to these fast food restaurants.
P America’s Obesity Crisis Obesity has plagued America. Poor food choices and sedentary lifestyles are two accelerants which continue to fuel this fire. I view this as a lack of responsibility of ones self. As adults, we need to be held accountable for the choices we make. While fast food is convenient and sometimes even more affordable than preparing a meal at home, overindulgence in such behavior is directly linked to adverse health problems.
