Summary of: Farm Girl David Johnson Strayer University Professor Richardson November 12, 2012 Summary of Farm Girl The essay entitled “Farm Girl” by Jessica Hemauer was very inspiring to me. In the essay she shows how difficult life can be growing up on a farm and describes in detail her childhood experiences and how they affected her as an adult. In my opinion the most important point she makes is that when people work hard they become more responsible people. The story starts out with a young girl on a farm. The alarm clock is going crazy. She doesn’t want to get out of bed. She expresses this by stating "A typical ten-year old child does not have to wake up at five in the morning to do chores"(Hemauer, 2011, p.83). She understands that if she doesn’t, it will cause an argument with her father and put extra work on her siblings. She talks about her hours of chores before school and how all of this helps her learn to manage her time wisely. Many people wonder how she can accomplish so much without complaining. The purpose of this essay is to share her experiences and the positive outcome her childhood had on her life. She liked growing up on a farm and taking care of the animals, but disliked that her chores didn’t allow time for after school activities. Her responsibilities helped her to become better at time management and made her realize that most jobs are easy compared to what she went through as a child. She can relate to different audiences because of her age at the time and the amount of responsibility that she had to learn from it. Most teenagers would relate to the same views because some feel like they don’t fit in when it comes to school and other social events. She explains how she and each of her family members did their chores. She expresses that she was the youngest child, so everyone took care of
