Success Depends on Me Ivy Tech Community College Success Depends on Me I do believe the statement “You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with.”(Jim Rohn). The author’s conclusion on the other hand is off base in my opinion. The conclusion that if you want to be successful you must spend the majority of your time with successful people. My success depends on my dedication and motivation. The people I associated the majority of my time do not affect the outcome of my success, their faults teach me what not to do, to be successful. The five people I spend the most of my time are mainly family and one co-worker. Let us start with my co-worker. Her name is Terri, she is the oldest daughter of Bill. I started working with Bill on houses he purchases, then we would remodel them. Bill, a 92-year-old millionaire, broke his hip last year, since that time I have been doing the work by myself. Until recently when Terri quit her job and started helping me. Terri is somewhat successful with help from her father, but I would never want to be like her. She spends a dollar to save a dime. This is what I mean by saying others faults teach me. Next I will discuss my parents. My parents are not rich, don’t have fancy things and are not totally content with their lives. They are happy, take numerous vacations and have the necessities of life. My mother has worked in factories as long as I can remember and hates everyday of it. I know this because she says I hate my job all the time. My father has retired from working in a factory for thirty years, he did also served in the military before I was born. Now he sits at home and hates every minute of it. He has tried working since his retirement but most places he wants to work never call back, he believes it is because of his age. My parents are not as successful as I want to be, but
