In today’s overly competitive world, what is the meaning of success?
Success is relative to an extent- it can be holding a degree from Harvard or holding a newborn baby; earning a big salary or earning the love of another person; winning a prize or winning a battle with cancer; feeding your family or feeding a village in a remote corner of the world. Therefore, success to me means a combination of many aspects. To achieve success, we need respect, happiness, integrity, patience, and support- all of which are difficult to attain, however, play an integral role.
In my opinion, happiness plays a major part in being successful. “Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.” A meaningful quote from an American business man/ politician - Herman Cain. Based on this quote, I feel that if one is happy within, in the family and in the community, there is no stop to the great things that one can achieve. If one is happy and content with what one is doing, naturally there will be hard work and sincerity put in and therefore one can be “successful” in our goals and endeavors.
If one is surrounded with an environment filled with stress and anger, our mind is distracted and we deviate from our goals. Happiness is integral not only for one self but for others too. If one can bring a smile to another individuals face, one feels happy and satisfied. When one helps an under-privileged person in any small way, they feel extremely happy and bringing happiness to others brings self satisfaction.
Sincerity and honesty to oneself and others are the other important factors in achieving success. In today’s world very few people are truly sincere and honest. Everyone is trying to be “successful” by being “on top” in whatever ways possible, some by even using corrupt practices.
