Thankful enough every single one of these subjects has to do with your future. Time management will teach you all about making time for your life, your classes and, your career. Goal setting will help you learn about how to set goals and how to actually achieve them. Career planning will help you come up with the right career for yourself and which path to move on.

Teich Major in Success College students need more guidance in how to turn their talents, curiosity, and passions into successful careers. Most guidance offices and books on the subject will be inadequate for these purposes. The writing style is witty and engaging, and the examples are interesting and relevant. Repetition does occur in using the examples, but it's not too bad. While this book has some weaknesses in helping you select the direction you should go in, it is superb in helping you pursue your goals once they are set.

Not only could such courses open doors to this ‘self-discovery’, but also having a larger set of skills is going to make one a more knowledgeable, credible, and interesting person. Colleges want to prepare an individual for the ‘real world’ and are putting their best foot forward to help develop certain tools to help the students. If you are a person who can communicate well with writing and also orally, that alone will help you in any situation, not just a focused major. Also brought up in the article is being able to make a choice, or an argument and being able to defend your side of that argument.
The cultural diversity on campus can both positively and negatively impact students’ lives at university. Light asserts that the biggest change in American universities is the amount of diversity around campuses. Light states that “it is important to shape the conversation that accompanies any such challenge so that it becomes a constructive learning experience, not a simple fight for authority” (p. 159). Students should be made to realize that there will be differences in perspectives and opinions along with cultural differences however, they must be open to all this so that college experience becomes more meaningful to them. Light asserts that “diversity on campus exerts an impact on learning both in and out of classes” (p. 160).
Murray and Ungar Synthesis In the many recent debates about how to approach higher education, one issue that has constantly appears is the question of students benefiting from a liberal arts based education. Some argue that a liberal arts education is helpful in teaching students the basic life skills, others claim that a more specific field of study is necessary in order to b successful in life. In Ungar’s essay “the New Liberal Arts”, he claims that with a liberal arts education, students can benefit tremendously when they receive their jobs. In Murray’s essay “Are Too Many People Going to College”, he proclaims that a liberal arts degree is not highly recommended because the more difficult careers want students to take classes that are more specific to a job. Sanford J. Ungar and Charles Murray both conduct and display their own opinion towards the facts they learned through their own strenuous research.
“By tying grades to money, we give students incentives not to take risks” (Vogel, 392) that stop them from choosing challenging courses in college. Students find easier courses through word of mouth or websites that previous students rate their professor in. I always ask people who previously took the course I am interested in whether or not I have a chance of passing the course with a C or higher. Students are afraid of putting their grade point average at risk because the grade point average is a component of the application process that helps colleges decide who to accept. .
The online open source encyclopedia Wikipedia has become a serious controversial issue in the academic world. Educators all over the world are perplexed at the idea that students should be able to use Wikipedia as a credible source. Two college professors wrote two essays with completely different view points on the issue. On the side against using Wikipedia as a scholarly source is Professor Neil L. Waters with his article “Why You Can’t Cite Wikipedia in My Class.” Then on the opposing side of the argument is Professor Mark A. Wilson with his article “Professors Should Embrace Wikipedia”. Both Waters and Wilson made some convincing points but Waters came out on top with better more convincing factual information to persuade the readers the downfalls
Jessie Romelus Intro to Reading and Writing Newman insists that studying different varieties of majors in universities ultimately creates a citizen of good character. Initially, Newman discusses inequality between majors. He states that majors should not be isolated because they are all related to one another in some way or form. Thus, he implies that there should be a balanced education by including the study of different majors. He makes the connection to his point in saying that a student expands their knowledge when there is a study of different majors.
Along with that I hope to learn more about better time management in my college skills 105 class. College skills class with be a very important one because, many people including myself need better time management skills. Lastly I look forward to further sharping my skills as a writer in English 101. In this day and age writing and proper grammar seem to be a passing fad, but to be successful in today’s modern world I believe it is extremely important to maintain and further advance these skills.
I believe college will change my interactions with my parents and professors because college will open new doors for me and make me look at topics differently college will make me a better critical thinker and prepare me for the “real world” in many different ways college experience will broaden my outlook and knowledge on culture, politics, religion, and language.
