Although both authors prove strong points it is obvious that whether your choice is college or trade school, as long as you apply yourself you will be guaranteed future success. “The individual benefits that college graduates enjoy, including high levels of savings, increased personal/professional mobility, improved quality of life for their offspring, better consumer decision making, and more hobbies and leisure activities” (Porter, 494). Porter is explaining that a college educated individual will have a life full of endless opportunities, and a strong set of morals. A college degree is valued in our society, and we are led to believe it’s a staple for our success socially and economical. Attending college can boost your confidence giving you a piece of mind knowing you have a solid educational background.
Chapter 1 In Chapter 1 the book talks about the college experience. It goes into different details about settling into a college routine, talks about why college is important and many other new things that come with college. It explains that college isn’t all about sports and partying that as young adults we have that image of college in our head. College is another step in education, and in today’s society having a college degree is very important when trying to get a high paying job. Having a college degree makes living the American Dream a lot easier, and it helps you grow as an adult and teaches you leadership roles.
He or she argues that the government questions the college’s freedom to “reflect their unique character.” It is true; tradition is a big part of a university’s prestige. Tradition attracts students to certain schools and government interference would take away from that. The key word in “legacy admissions” is legacy. In some cases it is not just a college tradition, but family tradition. Parents leave legacies for their children to carry on once their time has come, whether it is in a fraternity, sorority, or a chapter of the university.
To continue with the advantages of attending a State-Run Teacher Training College, democracy is also an important factor inside this type of college. Public colleges provide an atmosphere of greater freedom, democracy and participatory. In a private institution there are more restrictions in this regard. The advantage is that there is diversity of opinion and this allows students to grow around different cultures and ways of being. Lastly, the final advantage is flexibility.
A great reason why I chose SWCC is for the programs they offer, and the flexible schedule so you can have time to work if need to. The next to last reason for choosing SWCC is for how easy it was to receive financial aid. The last reason is that SWCC is a great place to get you ready for a university of your choice, because they can set up your classes according to the university of your choice. The passage of the “Pick the Public’s Pocket No More” bill would lower college application rates, lower college graduation rates, and lower our country’s number of new college graduates for open positions in the work force. Without grants, many Americans would not be able to pursue college degrees because of the debt they would acquire financing their degree with loans alone. Federal grants allow young adults, who are the future of our country, to pursue a college degree without the full burden of college debts after graduation. The cultural diversity on campus can both positively and negatively impact students’ lives at university. Light asserts that the biggest change in American universities is the amount of diversity around campuses. Light states that “it is important to shape the conversation that accompanies any such challenge so that it becomes a constructive learning experience, not a simple fight for authority” (p. 159). Students should be made to realize that there will be differences in perspectives and opinions along with cultural differences however, they must be open to all this so that college experience becomes more meaningful to them. Light asserts that “diversity on campus exerts an impact on learning both in and out of classes” (p. 160).
If that happens then you might have to take whatever class could not transfer over at a university for more money. Be sure to find a good advisor to make the chances of a nightmare happening slim to none. Unfortunately you do not get a bachelor’s degree from a community college. Some say community colleges have limited curriculum. (Pros and Cons, 2012) For high school graduates, commuting from home appears to them as a disadvantage.
What's Worth It In The End People often declare that attending a university will provide a higher education, as opposed to a community college. However, the truth of the matter is, most community colleges offer similar accreditation to four-year schools. College Should Be Free For All Students College too many students mean a higher education that leads to a bright future. Of course, there is challenging work that needs to be fulfilled over a period, in order to meet the expectations of living life in a certain way. However, the hard work put into the dream of attending a university has a possibility of not coming true due to the lack of unfortunate families, competition, and lastly government decision-making. A funded education is needed for every upcoming generation. In addition, a modern country needs highly skilled graduates of all kinds.
