Student Self Development Question 1 As seen from my Learning styles questionnaires, ‘Three different learning styles, (see bibliography)’, I found I am a Visual Learner. I agree strongly with the points mentioned in the questionnaire, as I love the use of colors, when I make notes I highlight key words or sentences. In class I’d recall a lecture better given with interesting visuals, however, where it isn’t present, I may be forgetful. I am a “day dreamer” when I listen to music; the same idea applies when I attend a class at the University; I prefer and enjoy an imaginary learning experience. I do however realize that my learning style needs to develop in other areas, because ‘visual lectures’ in a passive surrounding aren’t always available. Consequently, to develop another kind of learning style, I could be more active and interactive with other members in the classroom as well as maintain more focus on listening skills. To begin with ‘sound’ and ‘feel’ in learning, Tom and Sandra (2008,p.55) found that for sound learning one can take part in ‘discussions’ with others and use ‘recording methods’ to enhance learning. In developing feel learning one can conduct role-playing to get the feel of the part as well as making patterns of things you need to remember. Question 2 The importance of developing people skills is clear, specifically when working within groups, it’s important to understand as shown in Stella and Palgrave’s (1999, 2003, 2008,p.93) that people learn in different ways, some individually and some in groups, and that University curriculums are highly focused on improving people skills. The addition, I have gained some valuable information from University that I consider of high value; 1. Questionnaires helped me gain a better understanding of my learning style and how to develop other styles. 2. In class activities i.e. Group work
