I. Public baths are extremely unsanitary for those who use them. a. LOGOS: The water is still and contains bacteria and germs from those who use them to clean themselves. i. LOGOS: Polluted water can be a source for disease and illness. ii. The people may be cleansing themselves but are exposed to horrible pollution. II. People are paying to bathe themselves publicly when they could be bathing in their own homes in private. b. Instead of funding public baths, the government should provide for the people to be able to have access to clean water in their own homes to bathe with. iii. People would be less exposed to the harmful contaminants in the water in a private bath. 1. People should not be paying to be exposed to detrimental pollutants that can harm them and their families. III. Public baths are extraneous and unnecessary. c. Why spend so much money on public hygiene when money could be spent to keep the people clean in their own homes? d. People would much rather bathe in the privacy of their own homes. IV. Baths are meant to be a way to relax in privacy. e. ETHOS: The people are being stripped of their privacy in a public bath. f. Public baths do not acknowledge the relaxation and healing powers that bathing in private allows for. iv. PATHOS: Private baths help to unwind people and calm down, whereas public bathing can cause an uncomfortable feeling for some. V. The health of the public is in danger. g. Families can transmit water-borne viruses and diseases to one another from using public bathing systems. v. ETHOS: Children and babies can be infected by their relatives who use the baths. vi. ETHOS: Pregnant mothers using the baths can expose their babies to pollution. VI. Economic growth should not surpass the importance of health.
