Dear Ms. May,
My name is Marisela Baca, I am a student in your 10:30 a.m. English 090T class.
I am writing this assignment, the English readiness letter, for two reasons. One is to fulfill the requirements of the course and secondly to prove to myself that I am capable of taking on the challenge of English 95. I have reviewed my last 10 weeks and feel confident that I have improved dramatically in my writing and thought process. I also have reflected on my challenges and what I need to improve on so that next quarter will not be as difficult as this quarter. In this letter I will attempt to evaluate my strengths and weaknesses. I know that my motivation to be successful in school is real and that motivation is driven by my two year old son Victor, so I can be his role model. I believe that I am ready for English 95 because I know what my strengths and weaknesses are.
To begin with, I had a very difficult time during the course because of problems at home with my significant other. It was a huge adjustment for my family, for me to go to school. Getting my homework done on time was a challenge because of the disruptions in my personal life. There were times I just wanted to quit however, with your encouragement and the support of my parents I continued the best I could. I am not happy nor satisfied with my grades in this class because it really doesn’t reflect what I am capable of doing. Time management was a huge issue for me and the constant interruptions from home prevented me from excelling in my homework. When I saw myself falling behind I would literally freeze, and begin to spiral into procrastination. Thank God for my Dad who would talk me through it and help me get back on track.
