July 2001 was a busy time for Aaliyah. After the sucess of her song "Try Again" for which she was nominated for a Grammy Award and won several MTV Video Awards, Aaliyah finally released her "Aaliyah" album. Debuting at number two on the Billboard charts, "Aaliyah" was a sales success despite many lack-lustre reviews it received. In August 2001, Aaliyah took time off from her busy album promotional tour to fly to the Bahamas to film a video for the song "Rock the Boat". The video, filmed on Abaco Island, was directed by Hype Williams, a major music video director known for his style and wit.

Tamela came from the hit film Tammy and The Bachelor that artist Debbie Reynolds sang. Tamela Records introduced many artists such as Marvin Gaye, Four Tops, Marvelettes, and The Isley Brothers. Tamela Records is a record label that was established in The United Kingdom. Tamela Records has its own slogan “The Sound that makes the world go round.” Tamela was started off an $800 family loan in 1959. In 1977 she released Blue Lights in the Basement, which was one of the top selling albums of the year. This album featured a duet with Donny Hathaway, “The Closer I Get to You”, which reached number two on the pop charts. She followed that up with the album Roberta Flack featuring Donny Hathaway. Hathaway died before the album was released in 1980. Soon after he died she found a new partner in Peabo Bryson.
The 14-year-old girls met musician Johnny Otis. Stories on how they met vary including Otis' version in which James had come to his hotel after one of his performances in the city and persuaded him to audition her. Another story came that Otis spotted the group performing at a Los Angeles nightclub and sought them to record his "answer song" to Hank Ballard's "Work With Me, Annie". Nonetheless, Otis took the group under his wing, helping them sign to Modern Records and changing their name from the Creolettes to the Peaches and gave the singer her stage name reversing Jamesetta into Etta James. James recorded the version, which she was allowed to co-author, in 1954, and the song was released in early 1955 as "Dance with Me, Henry".
Selena and Los Dino's biggest surprise came in 1987, when the then 15 year old Selena won the Tejano Music Award for Female Entertainer of the Year. That award led Selena to a major record label contract with Capitol

Throughout history, there has always been a strong correlation between television and popular music. In 1956, Elvis Presley made his first television appearance on the Dorsey Brothers’ Stage Show, which was said to have “made television history.” Presley’s performances on shows like The Ed Sullivan Show and Your Hit Parade, which were important in combining popular music with television even before his appearances, just made them that much more significant and influential. While the advancement of popular music continued to grow and diversify in the 1960s and 70s, it was not until 1981 when television’s first 24-hour music network, MTV, was debuted. The MTV program went on to revolutionize the music industry and become an influential source of pop culture and entertainment in the United States and other parts of the world, including Europe, Asia and Latin America, which all have MTV-branded channels. The Bill was created to prevent a repeat of the Bonus March of 1932 and a relapse into the Great Depression after World War II ended. The American Legion (a veterans group) was essentially responsible for many of the Bill’s provisions. The Legion managed to have the bill apply to all who served in the armed services, including African Americans and women. The fact that the Bill paid for a G. I.’s entire education encouraged many universities across the country to expand enrollment. For example, the University of Michigan had fewer than 10,000 students prior to the war, but in 1948 its enrollment was well over 30,000.
CHILD BEAUTY PAGEANTS The idea of Beauty Pageants started back in 1921 when the owner of an Atlantic City hotel thought of the idea in order to promote tourism. The winner of these contests would gain the title of Miss America, this has been a yearly event ever since. Then when the 1960’s came about pageants were becoming so popular that a ‘Little Miss America’ was started, originally open to 13 – 17 year olds but by the time 1964 came around there were over 35,000 participants which prompted an age division. Now a days children as young as two and three also participate. Beauty pageants as we know them today arisen in the late 1960’s in Miami, Florida.
