During the second term my focus has been on developing my skills to become a more valuable member of the health visiting team. My previous career within emergency nursing means I find the drop in clinic setting to be the area I am most comfortable within and this unscheduled method of contact a familiar one. I have been assisting the health visitor (HV) or child health advisor (CHA) each week with at least one clinic to improve my skills within this setting. This enables me to see a wide range of more common concerns and queries on a high volume basis but within a setting that affords me the opportunity to ask a colleague for advice if I am unsure. I feel I am learning a diverse range of subjects that will better equip me to answer questions
I am qualified state nurse (SRN), currently working in a private hospital in Seremban since 3 years till date. I work in a general medical surgical ward, also we have nurses that works in surgery and paediatric wards. During my experience, I have acquired type of knowledge and skills that I believe sharing with learner will improve people knowledge and give more insight to detail of objective in the learning process that has been given. During these learning process between mentor and learner . I decided to choose one of my junior staff nurse as my learner.
Many of these patients have complex conditions and the more education a nurse has in preparation and critical thinking will be better prepared to manage the care of the patients under their care. I was working in a Rehabilitation hospital and during my shift, I had a patient who was doing well. The assessment was completed with nothing exceptional noted. During my charting I also make a habit to read the history report for all my patients as well as labs and other tests that have been done. I read the patient had history of hypertension and diabetes.
We have had a recent decline in our T.J.C compliance, HR will play a vital role in ensuring the members we bring into our organization are motivated and compliant to our guidelines. They will also be the focal point of ensuring our staff members are treated fairly and are able to perform their duties without discrimination. One of the issues we are currently facing is a shortage of clinical staff, to include registered nurses, respiratory therapist, and medical technologist – and an abundant number of physicians on staff. The team, along with the HR office will need to reevaluate the services that our organization provides and redefine the positions we will maintain. For example, if we have three pediatricians on staff and the majority of patients we receive is the elderly population – we may have to revise our
Most importantly though, is probably the fact that I borrowed ideas from that class and from Brenner’s model and have instituted parts into the orientation of new staff-members within my current department. We have shared governance groups in our and I have the responsibility in my group of helping with orientation with our educator. I have a diagram drawn up for all the new orientees of qualities “novice” recovery nurses have all the way to expert. It is only for a reference while working in the department to evaluate our personal attributes and skills. I have found reflecting on this I have seen days when I do not perform to my potential and days where I’m happy to see skills I have developed progressing my practice.

A few areas for improvement are noted in the paper. The vigorous, standardized education gives the knowledge, values and skills needed for a layperson to become a competent nursing professional (Lindeman, 2000). The challenging nature of today’s healthcare system has led many nursing leaders to believe the necessity for all the nurses to have a baccalaureate degree which will help them to cope with the increased use of technologies at work, as well as the societal changes and shift from acute to community based settings (Speziale & Jacobson, 2005). In United
Thomas, check the lighting, throw rugs, stairs, bath mat, accessibility (high cabinets, low toilet seats), tub bars etc. (Geriatric Fast Facts, 2013). There is a nice handy checklist online (A Place for Mom, 2011). Patients with cancer may receive inadequate analgesia due to underestimation and underreporting of pain, although the case study does not indicate if Mrs. Thomas belongs to any minority that lowers her chance of getting adequate pain medicine (Bernabei, et al, 1998). Many people may have inadequate knowledge about pain and disproportionate fear of addiction (Bernabei, et al, 1998).
The importance of this assignment is to evaluate group dynamics within the group that I was placed in during Psycho-social aspects of health, human interaction and communications seminar. Gibbs reflective cycle, Gibbs (1988) has been used throughout in order to effectively reflect upon key issues within group dynamics, Pears (2005) has also been used to assist with referencing correctly, knowing the importance of working well within a group/team in any healthcare setting, I was egger to enhance my skills in this area. The class was divided into groups, the group that I was placed in consisted of one midwife, and three adult nurse students including myself. At this point I was very nervous as I had never worked with any other healthcare professional
I am continuously looking for new and great ideas to better the field of nursing and the ultimate goal of helping those in need. In the last two years I have gained significant experience from my work in long-term care and assisted living settings. Now, I am
Once completing my bachelors of science in nursing, I can continue my long-term goal of becoming a nurse practitioner. The skills required of a nurse practitioner are skills that I have been practicing throughout my career as a nurse. I will listen to my patient’s needs and concerns, and provide them with information in a way they can understand it. I will have better critical thinking and reasoning skills for when problems or situations arise. I will have the knowledge and information needed to diagnose and treat.
