Chapter 9 Case Study 1.) Changing Superior’s time off policies will decrease unscheduled time off. This is because better superior time off policies will give employees ample space and time to balance between their personal and work responsibilities reducing the need for unscheduled time off. 2.) PTO provides employers with flexibility in managing absenteeism thereby ensuring reliable production. PTO also serves as motivation to employees. You treat employees as adults who are entitled to use PTO at their discretion without oversight. 3.) One disadvantage of PTO is that employee take them as benefits and use them for vacation and are forced to report to work while sick or while having pressing personal issues. This beats the reason for existence of the PTO. Some research shows that employers who adopt PTO may give employees fewer overall days than they had previously, and/or new employees accumulate PTO more slowly than longer term employees. Chapter 10 3.) The basic concept of health insurance covers the costs of a variety of services that promote sound physical and mental health, including physical examinations, diagnostic testing, surgery, hospitalization, psychotherapy, dental treatments, and corrective prescription lenses for vision deficiencies. Health insurance provides coverage for medicine, visits to the doctor or emergency room, hospital stays and other medical expenses. Policies differ in what they cover, the size of the deductible and/or co-payment, limits of coverage and the options for treatment available to the policyholder. Health insurance can be directly purchased by an individual, or it may be provided through an employer.
