How and why do strategic decisions affect human resource management policies? Can human resource policies or constraints ever affect strategy? Why or why not? Human resource management policies can be effective by strategic decisions because the existing policies may not agree with the new directions. Therefore new policies must be written to reflect the new direction. Yes human resource policies or constraints can affect strategy based on what law the policies are written for. Some policies are made to comply with the federal or state laws that govern the entity and the policies may not allow for changes. 2. Identify the problem and causes of the problem in this case. The problem in this case is the new dean changing historic procedures in which will alter the schedules of the existing staff. Secondly, if the existing staff does not comply with the new directions it may affect their ratings and recommendations for salary increases. 3. Evaluate Dean Blake’s strategy and human resource policies. Did the strategy make sense in terms of the internal and external environment of the school? Do the human resource strategies support and reinforce the organizational strategy? Why or why not? The strategy of Dean Blake does make sense for the internal and external environment of the school. In order to stay competitive and to keep enrollment up the school must adjust to the needs of the students. If the school expands their locations and offer night classes to the working population, it will have a greater potential to increase profits and enrollment. In addition the human resource strategies does support and reinforce the organizational strategy by adding a dean for external affairs to
