Five “career tracks” a) Management Officers: creativity, action-oriented b) Political Officer: be able to make recommendations on foreign policy, ability to engage in negotiations c) Economic Officer: technical expertise, continuous knowledge of country’s’ economic situation, knowledge of political climate and U.S economic interests, versatility, sound judgment, strong business skills d) Consular Office: sharp attention to detail, reassuring and agreeable nature e) Public Diplomacy Officer: congenial, diligent relationship builders, ability to educate about our nation All Foreign Officers regardless of career track they take must have the following KSA’s: ability to react quickly to world political and economic developments, must be prepared to recommend appropriate foreign policy changes, strong interpersonal skills, strong written and oral communication skills required, ability to handle stress, flexibility and adaptability, dependable. II. Foreign Service National (FSN): require all of the same key skill sets required for private-sector management careers plus: aptitude for languages, strong interest in international relations and cross-cultural sensitivity. B. Plan to entice mid-level, experienced FSOs to bid on the U.S. posts in Nigeria and to retain qualified FSNs. III. Yearly Increase Pay: The Department of State should offer an increase in pay every year for employees that bid on the U.S. posts in Nigeria. They should offer increases on wages and housing allowances as well. IV. Better technology resources: The Department of State should offer internet services as well as
