Trejo Grand Canyon University: LDR 600 10/18/12 Sample Case Study Analysis Paper 1: A Tale of Two Coaches “ Great coaches flex their system, but not their philosophy. All great coaches have a coaching philosophy. They know it takes skill in all phases of the game, but it’s their philosophy that informs their focus. Some coaches always have great rebounding teams; some focus on a fast break offense; some are defensive minded. Yet, if their current lineup gives them different strengths, they may flex their system or make adjustments to best take advantage of the current talent.
Most fans enjoy a team more than they do a player. That’s what makes a team sport fun to watch and cheer for. It’s not about the one player but a collection of players doing something together for the same result. So when a player is caught using sports enhancing drugs the fans dislike the player but still root for their team. In the fans eyes, these players tarnish the game.
For some all are winners and should have a prize for participating, while others see it as only the winners deserve glory. If you have the coordination and athleticism, competitive sport might be fun and joyful. But what about those who aren’t coordinated or physically built to it, they will not see a competitive spirit as fun. If you are always last in a race or can´t hit the ball. The new and improved curriculum might make you hope, for a lot of rainy days.
Why would someone work their tails off, practice for numerous hours a week, eat right, and focus so much on being the best if winning wasn't important? Think about that for a second. Why would someone instill so much time into something that just wasn't worth it?Vince Lombardi once said, "If winning isn't everything, then why do they keep score?" This is something that really got to me and has been embedded in my head for as long as I can remember. Winning may not be everything, but it definitely is a very important factor in sports.
The conflict perspective is made up of the competitive nature of some humans and also the search for power and wealth. You can see this a lot in today’s sports most of the sports professionals have the completive nature but they also may just want the power and wealth hence why some football and baseball players turn down large sums of money because they feel that they are worth more when really they need to realize they are just entertainers and are only worth what someone is willing to pay. The interactionist perspective is what you see yourself as and what you think other people see you as. If you study sports form this perspective you could look at it like the sports professionals do such sports so they make themselves feel important or feel like they are important to other people. I ran into this a lot when I was in the Marine Corps a lot of the men a women that joined where just doing it so they felt important and had that sense of self-worth to themselves and to others.
I am very active, very into sports and in some cases I do have that thinking I’m the best attitude but I call it confidence. Confidence is what makes me take a chance and try new things, the jocks like to show off their skills and be the center of attention, and that is what I love to do. It might sound conceded and that is how outside people may see us but jocks do have inside feelings and aren’t just stuck up and stupid. Some people are just born with an athletic ability, some more than others, but in my opinion that does not give others the right to discriminate against sporty people. One could say I have been a jock ever since I was 5 when I started playing softball but I am proud to say I am and I will continue to be.
You have to sell what you’re doing to the kids, the program, the school, and even the town, which can be quite complicated. Winning district or even getting to the playoffs can boost your ego a bit but, in the coaching field it’s not something you want to get to your head. That’s the hard part about being a coach is to get your players from being egocentric because winning can do that to young men and they can lose focus easily. Egocentric men can also bring down a program, all it takes is a few big egos and the rest of the men would begin to follow the same path which will eventually lead the program to
Argumentative Essay: There’s a Reason Why Your Kids Aren’t Playing – They’re Not Good Enough When it comes to kids and sports, there always seems to be a big debate going on. Today’s most asked question is about playing time. Should all of a team’s players get it, or should only the best of the best play? And clearly, when you play to win, you need your best men (or women) to get the job done. Let’s face it, some kids are just better than others.
And without technology, there would be no progress in the sporting world. Without replay, media, or any kind of updated training equipment, sports in the future wouldn’t be as exciting as they are now. The technology that is used today is definitely paving the way for new and better ideas down the road. With instant replay, it’s a pretty basic technology. Its used today to make hard decisions that the referees or umpires seem to miss or can’t decide on.
There are two methods used to increase self-confidence: self talk and imagery. Self talk: self talk could be a running commentary in your head whilst performing which could make an athlete perform better, for example when there is a strong attack or break on for the opposite team and I am the last defender before the goalkeeper then I would be saying to myself “stay on your feet. Pressure the ball. Slow him down” and with luck others will come and support in defence preventing the worst case scenario, a goal, to occur. This will have a positive effect on performance because it means that the sports performer will always be alert and will never lose in confidence in their ability, which can only be a positive.
