Sports And Games Sports and microcosm of society: Nobody can deny that games are a part and parcel of life. Infect, life itself is a game and this world is a big playground and we are to play the game of life is a hard nut to crackle. In order to play it well we have to learn to be good players. It is though games and sports only that we can learn how to overcome the challenges of life. They provide us competition and with the passion to win we work hard, think of ways and make our best efforts to win and doing these, we learn a lot. “Competition is the spice of sports:” We feel happier in a playground than in a classroom. We feel happier because we forget the homework and the scolding of teachers. Games teach us discipline, tolerance, team work, patience and punctuality. The players obey the captain and abide by the rules of games. They also teach us that we should play a game for games sake only, not for victory or defeat. “Talent wins games but team work and intelligence wins championships.” The Duke of wellington once said, “The bottle of water loo was won on the playground of Eton” He meant that discipline; patience, courage and optimism learnt on the playground of Eton stood him stead and led him to victory. If a person is physically fit, he is also mentally fit & healthy. There is always a sound mind in a sound body. A healthy man is always happy and cheerful on the other hand, an un healthy person leads a painful and miserable life. Life becomes a burden to him. Games and sports also produce a sense of equality, co—operation and fraternity. Games provide enough of amusement to remove the trust caused by our dull routine. They add colour to our boring life and all those qualities which we get from playground help us to face the struggle of life. Games lubricate mind and body.
