Just image, if another hurricane like Katrina were to come somewhere close and destroy everything, family members, friends, babies, and animals would be hurt, homeless, or dead. All familiar artifacts would be gone, washed away by floods. Only memories would remain. How would people feel then? Gore wants people to be aware of global warming, the effects that it has on the environment, and work immediately towards fixing it.
Big businesses are releasing harmful chemicals into the atmosphere and oceans. As a result the ozone layers are thinning and creating unprecedented hotter climates in many regions that negatively affect the ecosystems that are not used to the increase in heat. TMA 01, QUESTION1. Some of the most serious environmental issues today are climate change, air issue, waste and land pollution, over population and water issue. 1. Climate Change, is undeniable a global environmental concern that is triggering a rise in the amount of major natural disasters like floods and hurricanes; which causes destruction in societies and the regions which they effect. Global warming will only cause an increase in these issues along with additional problems that could eventually end this civilization, if we don’t work hard on improving our efforts on managing all the different types of pollution and waste that contributes to this major concern.
It would be foolish for any person to deny that alternative energy sources need to be researched, but until it is economically sound to make the switch the United States needs to run on something that is dependable and that we know will continue to work. The economic value of developing the mere 2,000 acres in the Coastal Plain in the ANWR region of Alaska would be immense and simply cannot be looked over. There would be hundreds of thousands of new jobs available for people in every state and the revenues earned by the American government would be huge. In a time where American citizens are in fear of a new great depression a 700,000+ need for new jobs in the market
The saddest part of the Illinois mine disaster is that 111 lives have been altered forever in order for the government to be “politically correct” instead of doing what should have be done without even thinking of their own positions and how it would affect them. Considerations should have been taken into account on how the lives of the miners would be affected forever should an explosion took place. There were many that could have prevented the disaster on March 25, 1947. (Illinois Labor History Society, 2012) Scanlan could have taken a more proactive course of action and taken his reports to even a higher level of officials and government. Abnormal weather conditions, an increased frequency of natural disasters, and rising sea levels are what many of us claim to be part of a “natural cycle”. However, it is no coincidence that we are on the wrong end of that “natural cycle”, and our behaviours and activities have only caused it to worsen. Climate change will worsen if we continue to disregard its existence and compromise with its consequences, rather than confronting the source of the issue and taking responsibility. Our irresponsibility could ultimately lead to the destruction of our world and civilization, as portrayed in “Oryx and Crake” by Margaret Atwood.
