How can a student avoid procrastinating? Good Morning, Daily we have to do tons of things and sometimes our responsibilities overwhelm us. In the rush of doing things we somehow convince ourselves that none of these things need to be done at the moment. In other words, we decide that some peace and relaxation in the short term is what’s most important. So we take another break, watch a movie, watch that episode that you miss and relax. But then suddenly the inevitable deadline has arrived. For most people procrastination, irrespective of what they say, is NOT about being lazy. In fact, when we procrastinate we often work intensely for long stretches just before our deadlines. Working long and hard is the opposite of lazy, so that can’t be the reason we do it. So, why do we procrastinate and, more importantly, what can we do about it? Procrastination is define as the act or habit or putting off or delaying, especially something requiring immediate attention. Is also a complex psychological behavior that affects everyone to some degree or another. With some it can be a minor problem; with others it is a source of considerable stress. While most students have good intention to employ time management and study skill techniques as a way to avoid stay all night doing homework, these can be easily forgotten once a chaotic semester gets in progress. Procrastination can interfere with academic, co-curricular and personal success. In addition, it can lead to feelings of guilt, depression, self-doubt and other psychological conditions as well as produce unwanted physical effects that include unhealthy sleeping and eating habits. It is estimated that 90 percent students procrastinate, of which 25 percent have chronic tendencies. And while some students believe they do their best work under pressure, statistics show otherwise.
