By using many quotes, statistics, and descriptive details Clarke makes the writing complete. It’s as if he gives a little taste of everything, but that miniscule amount is sufficient to feed one’s imagination. Clarke really makes a homerun, his purpose to demonstrate how well Kennedy’s speech was and how/why it was successful, also to demonstrate the genuine president that Kennedy was; in which he clearly accomplishes. Personally never paid much attention to any president’s speech nor wanted to read it, but after reading “Why JFK’s Inaugural Succeeded”, the motivation and very enthusiasm to read Kennedy’s speech was unavoidable. Amazingly an author can really engage his/her audience, but that really takes a lot.
He lays everything down in front of them to see. This kind of honesty and sincerity that he shows to the people is a new form of persuasion. Nixon’s persuasion skills made this speech a successful one, which has stuck with people even today. He used his words effectively, and did the job of refuting most if not all of the questions presenting themselves because of the funds that were donated. His final thoughts that he leaves with the people reinforce his main points, and put his full support behind his decisions and his running mate Eisenhower.

In our history there have been many ways, effective and not, to address this issue and to abolish it. King and Obama are two people that have attempted to do this. Although King and obama both are persuasive, king is more so because he writes in a friendly voice, which is more effective. The general tone of kings voice is shown threw out his entire letter.
Bush’s speech heavily contributed to the use of his tones. Throughout the speech he uses relatively simple language; This was done so that he could unite the citizens of America and give them a sense of fearfulness. He did this by using Anaphora and constantly using words such as “our”, “us” and “we”. The use of these words made people realize that America is in this together as a nation, and in this case no one is an outsider or minority as they are all fighting against one common threat. Those words that were used by Bush are also essential because they represent solidarity.
He would also establish his own ethos by including his support for dignified persons that would validate his argument. In the beginning of his article, Gatto immediately establishes his credibility by stating in the first paragraph that he is " an award-winning educator and ardent libertarian…and has taught in New York public schools for more than two decades" (148). By stating his credibility, it would be easier for the audience to trust and believe Gatto's personal opinions about public education - that the lives of American civilians are manipulated by higher authorities in order to make sure that American citizens are dependent to the system and not independent thinkers. In order to further be seen as credible, Gatto uses expertise generalizations and figures that support his overall claim about public education. In this paper, Danial’s thesis seems to be clear on what he is going to write about. Danial is explaining how citizenship can save America through Barber; the author. He points out some strong statements where he is able to back up it up. As Danial explained ”Every nation in the world looked at America with admiration and not only did they respect America, but they believed in the leadership offered by America. The leadership did not come from the government however; it came from hard working citizens who were more concerned about the well being of their nation than their own lives” (2).
Although, Kennedy gets his audience, Americans, engaged through antithesis, “Support any friend, oppose any foe to assure the survival and the success of liberty.” Kennedy switched up the words in his speech to get the audience thinking positively about supporting those who want the help of the United States. Kennedy then goes to a different side of his plans; explaining that the countries that get our help will be the ones who side with the U.S. in our American ideals. Thus, supporting his purpose further by stating two opposite ideas in one antithesis statement. By Kennedy doing this, he creates a strong engagement with the U.S. citizens because his main purpose is to branch out to other countries, but at the same time he said he wouldn’t let other countries stand in the way of helping those who truly want the help. Another strong motive of Kennedy is his concern with improving America further.
His use of ethos, pathos and logos in this speech and others, made it effective enough to land him a spot as Commander in Chief. He used ethos in a way that gained the respect of his audience in that he took on the role of being one of them. By using logos he made them realize what they as the Republican Party stand for. With his use of pathos he appeals to their emotional side but making them believe that change is for the sake of their children’s livelihood. Ronald Reagan’s speech “A Time For Choosing” was intended to persuade his audience to believe the wrong-doings of the government, and persuade he did.
In his 2000 bid for the presidency Ralph Nader campaigned against the corporate powers dominance in the political landscape as well as the need for change in the manner of how presidential races are held. He also wanted universal healthcare, the legalization of hemp, and free universal education - meaning college would be free for every American citizen. Nader ran on a similar platform in 2004 and 2008. Opposition to the War in Iraq was one of the biggest issues in the 2004 campaign and Nader had always been at the forefront of this opposition. Nader has made it quite clear to his fellow citizens that he will always do his utmost to ensure that the rights of consumers are upheld and defended.
President Obama started his speech with a catch by naming one of his heroes, the civil rights leader John Lewis. This created a satisfactory level of personalization that was strengthened when he linked the Selma Marches to his “way to the Oval Office.” Since Obama was addressing millions of Americans across the country, he tried to maintain a level of formality as president. He also achieved a good level of simplicity and directness that made his message easier to be understood by ordinary citizens from different backgrounds. In addition, he influenced a wide range of audience by using a narrative approach telling the story of America in general and Selma in particular. The speech’s significance is apparent in the good choice of place (Edmund Pettus Bridge) and time (50th anniversary).
