SPACE EXPLORATION THE PROS AND CONS Corey Taylor ENG 122 ENGLISH COMPISTION II Instructor Cathy Cousar June 9th, 2011 American’s pay a great deal of tax money towards the efforts of furthering our space programs, and many don’t see the necessity for it or what we could possible gain from it. The benefits of exploring space are so much more than just going to distance planets. It’s not just about where we go; but also about how we got there and what we learned along the way. The topic of space exploration is a controversial one in the United States. There are just as many people against space exploration, as there are supporting it. On one side of the debate there are many positives effects of space exploration, but on the other hand there are many questions surrounding the point of exploring space and the investment into an operation that yields no return to that investment. Both sides have clear and logical points on this matter, but they both need to be considered with an open mind. Space has been a curiosity of many brilliant men over time; many have stared at the night sky in wonder, questioning all that is around us. In 1955 the American government announced it would a launch satellite into space. In 1957 before the Americans could do so, the Soviets launched the Sputnik satellite into space and began the space race. From that moment on, life would begin to change for the United States. The exploration of the cosmos filled most young kids mind, and the thought of what lay in store for them in the future was magnificent. This even started the space craze in major motion pictures throughout the years. The problem people find with exploring space is something to consider while deciding our future in regards to the space program. The cost is the main concern, we as tax payers give a lot of our money to the government, which allocate funds to various
