Space Exploration NASA stands for National Aeronautics and Space Administration. Right now, all of America’s human space flight programs cost around $7 billion a year. That’s pennies per person per day. “We spend around $10 billion a month in Iraq.” (Cowing 1-2) Is this more important than human spaceflight because we spend more money on it? Space exploration has given us so many new things from the very beginning. It has helped out in our own homes, medically, and all around public safety. Space travel and research by NASA has changed so many things and given us a better tomorrow. Getting rid of the space center could mean not discovering great things we could have never even imagined. Space travel and the work of NASA has greatly Helped our society from inventions to discoveries in the stars. While NASA not only engineers special software and machines, it has created better living for our homes and families. The space program has made enriched baby food. “It contains two essential fatty acids found in human milk but not in most baby formulas, believed to be important infant’s mental and visual development.” ("Ultimate Space Place" 3) Another item the space program has made is water purification systems. “NASA-developed municipal-size water treatment system for developing nations, called the Regenerable Biocide Delivery Unit, uses iodine rather than chlorine to kill bacteria.” ("Ultimate Space Place" 3) This has made drinking water safer, and our health better. NASA has made many other home-friendly consumer items such as: home security systems, smoke detectors, flat panel televisions, high-density batteries, trash compactors, cool sportswear, sports bras, hair styling appliances, composite golf clubs, and many other items.
