The rosebush represents kindness and forgiveness to the prisoners who must face either a prison sentence or a death sentence. The iron door seems to represent all that is strict and unrelenting in Puritan society, while the rosebush may represent the concept of "grace" or forgiveness. In Christian thought, grace is "unmerited mercy," that is, forgiveness of sins even though forgiveness is undeserved. Since the prison is a place of darkness and sin, the beauty of a wild rose bush growing in such an unexpected place could be a symbol of grace. Hawthorne leaves it up to the reader to decide whether the rosebush had survived out of the stern wilderness or whether it had sprung up under the footsteps of the sainted Ann Hutchinson.
He is writing the present poem to tell the truth to those who will read and know the reality of those future times when people will make nonsense myths out of such incidents. In a sense, the poem is a satire on the superstitious ideas of love and magic, rather than believing in the actual contact and attachment between man and woman. The 'relic' of the title refers to the hair and bone that people will declare relic out of
Sitting passively and waiting for a new opportunity to unlock achievements will not help a person move on. Stop talking about the social problems and start acting what benefits an individual. Do not be afraid to try something new in life. There are many chances out there that could be completed. These changes will not drop down anytime soon, one must reach out and exert integrity.
Juxtaposed to the negative imagery the overcramped housing evokes, the words ‘roses’ and ‘myrtle’ have connotations of beauty and innocence. This could relate to the wider meaning of the poem as, despite the patriot marching towards the gallows, he knows he is going to a better place, empty of corruption and evil. The use of pathetic fallacy represents the patriot’s despondent feelings. Furthermore, the rain could also be used to reduce the patriot’s dignity. However, the rain could also symbolise the patriot becoming innocent, similarly with the roses and myrtle, as the water could be considered to be washing the patriot’s sins away.
Since the prison is a place of darkness and sin, the beauty of a wild rose bush growing in such an unexpected place symbolizes God's grace. By starting off with a prison door and beautiful rosebush, Hawthorne is letting us know that the issues punishment versus forgiveness and judgment versus grace are going to be super important. Like I said earlier even though Hester went through many hardships she was able to overcome and bloom just like a rosebush would. The Scarlet Letter is a dark book at the beginning because the setting of the prison makes me think of sadness. When the prison is being described Hawthorne names everything that makes it such a sad place.
The character tries to tell through this poem that it is all on people and the choices they made. But it is for sure that whatever the choice they have to spend their life on it weather it’s good or bad. So characters of the poem discuss how people chose their option (Shurr, 2003, 584-590). They exist, but they cannot do anything if someone makes a wrong choice. Alternatively, the main character of “A Worn Path’ is Phoenix Jackson.
“I waited, and about four o’clock she came to the window and stood there for a minute and then turned out the (Fitzgerald 147).” Fitzgerald’s description of Gatsby’s enormous need for Daisy’s love and her insensible rejection integrate a connection that the audience may be able to relate to. In Gatsby’s blind love, he incessantly praises the green light at the end of Daisy’s dock as the importance of keeping hope. When Daisy finally cuts off the light, she also severs Gatsby’s hope for his love’s return. The manipulation supports how crucial love is in Gatbsy’s life, showing that he has nothing without Daisy’s returned
It also states that it is our power to prevent something bad from happening, without sacrificing anything of comparable moral importance. We should help others out of moral reasoning. According to Singers arguments our traditional moral categories are wrong and need to be corrected (Singer, 1972). Peter Singer thinks that we should correct our moral standards and work towards our moral sensibilities. Working towards our moral sensibilities will reflect the fact that there is no distinction between dutiful acts and supererogatory acts.
Abraham Lincoln’s death coincides with that of Jesus, on Good Friday, before Jesus’ resurrection on Easter. Whitman still had difficulty accepting that Lincoln was really gone, and so he vainly hoped that Lincoln would come back as Jesus had. Coming back to the point at hand, Lincoln is strongly represented by lilacs. They are very presidential flowers, for George Washington and Thomas Jefferson both cultivated lilacs in their leisure time, inextricably linking lilacs to the office of President of the United States. In addition, the purple color of lilacs is traditionally representative of nobility and mourning.
I remember telling David I was too scared to trust anyone again; he replied " Tiffany please don’t be scared, don’t let your past experiences ruin your future happiness" and just like that I was letting down my guard and trusting fate, it was as if I didn’t have a choice. The sun was beginning to set, the view was so beautiful, a mixture of orange and a little reddish pink. As clouds passed they brought with them a slight chill in the air. A breeze swept by sending a cold chill through us both, our eyes met as we moved closer to one another and with our bodies side by side we stared off into the distance completely lost in the moment. We didn’t talk, we just sat in silence taking in the moment.
