Colby's friends had been warning him for some time that they did not like the way Colby had been behaving. But after Colby did something, his friends decided that he should be hanged. They tried to rationalize their decision by saying that they, ".... had a perfect moral right to do so because he was our friend, belonged to us in various important senses, and he had after all gone too far." (Barthelme, 1973, pg. 194) His friends would not listen to Colby's argument that, "Going too far was something everybody did sometimes."
Prejudging Can Lead To A Disaster In the movie Hitch, Alex Hitchens (Will Smith) makes a statement, "She may not want the whole truth, but she wants the real you, she may not want to see it all at once" (Mordaunt, 2005). Although there may be some truth to this statement, the real truth is never to mislead a person's emotions. This belief that he has, lead him to be in a conflicting situation to where his self-disclosure was prejudged by his actions without creditable evidence of the truth. Because of his non-verbal actions Sarah's feeling were hurt, the truth was misconstrued and the whole situation was blown out of proportion. The speed dating scene exhibited a few concepts of conflict regarding interpersonal communication.
If anything happen to me, the experiment will be exterminated. However, I will strictly follow the instructions of the experiment and protect myself from these dangerous situations. There was a primary reason that triggered the brutal eruption during the experiment was the prisoners did not follow the orders of guards. Because they were not real prisoners and guards, the prisoners thought that it was not necessary to listen to these fake guards. However,
The government, like any other from a different country, has censored a lot of information from us that shouldn’t be. Our world may seem under control and going well, but really when we think about things, its because we don’t know something, it has been blocked from us for any reason, or they (our government or any ruling power) try to eliminate things because we don’t want to loose control. On the contrast, like any argument there’s an opposing side. There is a large amount of people who believe in censorship due to information being taken in could cause physical or psychological harm. Also, other factors that could cause harm: national security, pornography, and privacy.
The first assumption of this theme is that people make choices. Behaviour is modified due to the choices that we make in our mind of what is real and what is not. These choices come from the meanings that we carry with us about how we see others viewing us. The second point regarding the first theme in the Symbolic Interaction Theory states that meaning can only exist when people share common interpretations of the symbols they
Most people do not like the idea of having a freedom or liberty of some sort taken from underneath them; they get crazy. I guess we really do not appreciate what we have until it is gone, but then someone has to riot, thus abolishing that freedom completely and the chance of getting it back (thanks for ruining it, guys). A very popular and controversial topic would be gun control: should we regulate the business of firearms or leave it the way it is? I fully support the restriction and regulation of firearms, but then again, how else are we going to correct others on the errors of their ways? Everybody makes mistakes; it is a fact of life.
After Victor promised him a mate, and aborted the project, Creech starts to think in a different manner. As a result of the abortion, he believes it is his inclination to find someway to get himself a mate. Creech has not decided on where he is going to go. One thing he has not realized though is that he is being watched for the protection of the people around him. The amount of paroxysm that is expressed by him, that tends to make him a violent creature, has led Robert Walton to keep his eye on him.
He’ll always doubt her, for ever. So far, Iago has given us the idea that he acts only in the rush of revenge and so, that he doesn’t really think through his ideas. The audience doesn’t know if he really has a plan, structured plan but we realise that he thought everything through and that he has quite a sick mind… It seams like he thought exactly what to say and how to say it before his conversation with Othello. We also realise that he predicts what could and could not happen and all his thoughts are resumed to his plan and it’s not totally right to call him “evil” because he’s actually using the truth “And what’s he then that says I play the villain? When this advice is free and honest”.
While he was looking for Jean, he saw that the right thing to do was not to arrest him, but to come to realization that he had changed. However, in Javert’s mind, the right thing to do was to arrest Valjean for being the convict that he is. But what Javert had to understand was that people really could change. You just have to look harder. Searching for something that seems to be the “truth” can cause blindness on what is the “real” truth.
For the case above which indicates that it is hard for authorities to determine who should be tortured, some would argue that it is better not to let this opportunity to retrieve information from the terrorists flee. However, if we torture them, we are having risks to lose more. Since it is a waste of time to find the evil group from large population, it is better to keep them there as it still works as a slowdown for the rest members of their groups. Their plans and speed might be delayed because of their group member’s arrestment. Consequently, we might even have more time to consume for analyzing what and where may the terrorists’ attacks be.
