The Republic of Rwanda does not fully comply with the minimum standards for the elimination of trafficking; however, it is making significant efforts to do so. Having relations with other countries has helped and ranked us as one of the cleanest Sub-Saharan African territories. This support has aided Rwanda in the creation of programs, dedicated to protection and prevention systems mainly against human trafficking. These campaigns are promoted through the media. Rwanda remains the only African country in which the government is undertaking virtually all activities related to the demobilization and reintegration of former child soldiers. Rwandan laws does not prohibit all forms of human trafficking, though existing penal and labor code prohibit slavery, forced labor, forced prostitution, and child prostitution, under which traffickers could be prosecuted. Law No. 58/2008 references, but does not define, human trafficking for sexual exploitation and stipulates punishments of 15 to 20 years in prison. On the other hand, drug trafficking is a global challenge which knows no boundaries. Rwanda’s Anti- Narcotics Unit is at the front fore of the campaign against drug trafficking and abuse. The most commonly abused drugs are; cannabis and heroine. Even though, there are several campaigns that are carried through the media against drug trafficking, being surrounded by countries like Uganda, Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of the Congo that have high rates of drug and human trafficking, also conflicts with Rwanda itself, is a factor that affects the country harshly and does not allowed it to focus on solving the issues. For a possible solution regarding drug trafficking, this delegation wishes to strengthen the control and border security in Rwanda, to decrease the illicit trafficking of narcotics with nearby countries, furthermore reducing the supply of illegal
