The Skeleton Of Sociology Sociological Imagination Eden Mansour 100946467 SOCI 1001C Professor: Tamy Superle TA: Tiffany Liu October 3rd, 2013 Part I 1. According to C. Wright Mills Sociological Imagination is a state of mind, or rather a quality that one individual possesses psychologically (Mills, 1959, p.2). It is a perception, a way of seeing things of everyday life that are not visible or incomprehensible to the average human eye. This "quality of mind" provides the individual that possesses it with the ability to step outside of his/her enclosed mindset, and be able to perceive the thoughts, events, and even lifestyle of someone in the same, or different society and achieve a full understanding of what this person can potentially go through on daily basis. It is the ability to grasp a knowledge of the intimate aspects of ourselves and how this relates to the societal intimate aspects. Sociological imagination is the ability to identify how different stimuli or environmental social forces have an effect on people individually, and how that effect added altogether plays a role in society to better understand behaviour in humans as a whole. 2. Sociological Imagination is a crucial aspect in today's society to further understand it's members and the many public issues that a society possesses. In some cases, it is the potential resolution to social problems that can be found in any given society in any given time period. This is a very valuable concept to possess, as social problems can be linked back to personal troubles, and eliminating and resolving as many social problems in a society is one of many goals of sociology. Without Sociological Imagination, society would be a very corrupted issue as there would be no answers to resolving the many issues in it.
