Society Creates a Monster Throughout our lives, as we grow from a child to an adult, we develop a sense of who we are through socialization and the way people assume the way we are supposed to act. For example; men are supposed to like cars, sports, play outside, get dirty, and all of that crazy stuff, but are men allowed to wear dresses, heels, play with Barbie Dolls? It is noticeable everywhere you go, children get brought up depending on what gender they are. Little girls get princesses, doll houses, and help mom clean while little boys are outside playing with Hot Wheels, helping dad with yard work, and playing sports with their friends. Why is it that when a boy gets hurt he is taught that boys do not cry and to rub dirt on it, while little girls get comforted and loved? It is a weird situation but it does happen. Is it bad for society to act in these sorts of ways or is it what we have become accustomed to? Nowadays everyone in this world has a good idea on how boys and girls are “supposed” to be brought up, but it is not wrong if a boy ends up liking a boy or vice versa. In television shows they try to make it a point to show kids how they are supposed to act and expected to be, but not all kids or even adults would agree with it. If you see a little boy watching a TV show directed to little boys, you will see him interact with that show more than if it were a show about princesses. Even TV shows will put on commercials that are directed to a specific audience. When it’s a show directed at little boys you see commercials about Hot Wheels, pirates, NERF toys, and getting dirty playing outside. Is this the way boys are and the way we all have to raise our sons? What about the girls? After watching Dora you see princess toys, Barbie Dolls, tea sets, and stuffed animals. Girls are not like boys, they are much more sensitive, and can this just be
