Social Perspective on Education Social perspective is the social context in which people live (Henslin, 4). It examines how these contexts influence people’s lives (Henslin, 4). It explains human behavior and its connection to society as a whole. Social perspective gives us the opportunity to look at the connections between the behavior of individuals. Functional analysis describes society as a whole unit made up of interrelated parts that work together (Henslin, 25). Schools are the perfect example of functionalism. The school system works together just as an organ does. Schools have five major contributions. There are the teachers and other staff there to share their guidance and education with the students. We have cafeteria workers who provide meals for the entire school. The custodians keep the building and surrounding areas clean. Then there are the students who come to learn. Lastly we have the bus drivers who provide transportation for the students. Each person has their own function which is all equally important. Just as an organ, when all the parts fulfill their functions properly the society is in a normal state. If one of these parts were to fail the education system, the system would no longer function properly as a whole. The education phenomenon is a prime example of how functionalism works. Schools are built for the well being of our society, which gives everyone the opportunity to learn. The education we receive at schools is contributed to the well-being of our society. The students who go to school and learn will soon be the leaders of an even larger society. Schooling is a preparation in which can protect our whole country. It gives the younger generation’s wisdom and knowledge about the world and economy we live in today. I agree more with functionalism more than the others.
