Question: Is Social Media Becoming the Most Powerful Force in the Global Economy?
Over the past decade or so the Internet has become the center of many peoples’ lives. Whether you are looking up something for a research or connecting with people all over the world the Internet has been the place where people go to do research and connect with others. The sites that people use to do research and connect with friends and family all over the world (Google or Facebook) are known as social media sites. Social media is defined as “websites and applications that enable users to create and share content or to participate in social networking,” (What is social Media?). Much of society has been dependent on social media. The question is if social media is becoming the most powerful force in the global economy? I believe that social media has become the most powerful force in the global economy. Social media allows people to easily communicate with one another, it provides an easy way to get brand names out to the world, it helps with criminal prosecution, it helps people keep up with what is going on in the world, it helps conduct market research, and it helps people find jobs. Social media has also “helped provide thousands of jobs throughout the nation, created a new industry where thousands more have created income opportunities online, and facilitated countless sales over the past few years,” (Nathan).
To begin we are going to look at how social media is becoming the most powerful force of the global economy through communication. Social media makes it extremely easy for people to communicate with one another. Social media uses social networking sites such as Facebook, Twitter, Linked-In, Skype, and Google to help people communicate.
