John Tom Instructor 14 April 2011 Rugby and Football Many individuals who have heard of rugby and American football would assume that they are almost the same, but actually that is not the case at all. Most people here in America think rugby is just another form of football without all the publicity and pads. When taking these two sports and comparing them, a person will realize how incredibly different one is from another. The characteristics of each sport such as its history, object of the game, equipment, number of players and the length will show anyone that rugby and football are a lot different from one another. Rugby and football may have originated from each other way back in the 10th century in England, but the time and the way the two games were invented are quite different (“Sports Know How”).
Add to the confusion that only a few people in America have an interest in watching or playing Soccer. To understand why "football" is the American passion, it's important to know what the differences are between the two sports. Surprisingly, the only thing that they have in common is that both have eleven players per side. They are quite different in terms of rules and the way to play, the equipment uses, and their popularity. The first and the most obvious difference between the two sports is that soccer is played mainly by kicking the ball, and only the goalkeeper can touch and hold the ball by hands.
Another reason soccer is my favorite sport is from all the memories I have from playing the game. All the years I have played, I have won many games but also lost many games as well. It was great if my team won the game but even if we lost,we still had fun. We all enjoyed getting to play together. An experience that I have had playing soccer I will always remember happened when I was in tenth grade.

I have lived in other places and found that people never talk about football because no one cares about it.
