Smoking in Public Places There are many issues in today’s society that cause problems to American’s and to American itself. People are slowly starting to try to solve these issues. One of the most important issues Americans are dealing with is the excess use of tobacco products. Why do most people across the nation smoke cigarettes and other various tobacco products? For the nicotine buzz? Peer pressure? Or is the habit started because they wanted to look cool because the rest of their friends? All of these questions are possible factors to the reason people are constantly harming their bodies by smoking these harmful products. Smoking cigarettes in public places is a major problem that is just now starting to become more publicized and recognized. Health issues are starting to rise more and more. Awareness about harmful health effects due to cigarettes has been heavily publicized over the last ten years. American’s are starting to further realize that cigarettes are very unhealthy and cause cancer and numerous other negative effects to the human body. Smoking tobacco not only harms the person smoking, but the harms the people around them. Second hand smoking is one of the top ten reasons of death in the United States. Second hand smoke is said to be more deadly than the act of smoking itself. When people smoke, they exhale way more smoke and toxins than they inhale. When a person is around someone else smoking, they are constantly inhaling all the toxins that cigarette smoke produces. The act of second hand smoking is called “passive smoking”. Second-hand smoke contains a mix of more than 4000 chemicals, including ingredients found in products such as paint stripper, toilet cleaner, rat poison, and insecticide and car exhaust fumes.
