In calling the novel Fallen Angels, the author implies that the soldiers’ youth and innocence are more important than any of their other aspects, such as their religion, ethnicity, class, or race. They wanted them to know what war is really like and wants to help them understand what is experienced.
A very sad and tired looking president then sat down in his seat. The next part of the dedication ceremony had the family members’ present lay yellow roses at the base of the memorial. Narrative intervention The Aftermath Boys of Blood and Bone The physical demands of farm life were a job, but it takes Bob’s mind off the crude memories he endured during the war with Andy and Darcy. Kemmerich would lose the fight for his life. The conditions were so real and miserable that his fellow comrades tried to persuade him to give away his boots. It was then that Paul realized the true agonies of war—surviving the agony of war forces one to learn to disconnect oneself from emotions like grief, sympathy, and fear.
"He fell on a day that was... All quiet on the Western Front. He had fallen forward and lay on the earth as though sleeping. "(p.296) He has been through such agony with his fellow comrades dying, and the horrors of the war, but yet he dies on the quietest day of the war. Paul has been in the war nearly from the beginning, and he has survived a host of battles on the front line even while seeing many of his fellow soldiers die. Throughout the novel, Paul slowly loses his hope that he will ever get out of the war alive, and he begins to think that even if he does survive, he will not fit back into the normal routine of his community back home.

Rip Van Winkle was known to be the man who slept for 20 years. Rip’s sleep caused him to miss the Revolutionary War and America’s transition from colony to nation. When he awakens he finds out that everything and everyone has changed. During his 20 year sleep Rip misses events such as the Revolutionary War in which some of his friends fought and died for. Rip also missed out on America’s transition from colony to nation, so that when he enters the village and yells “I am a poor quiet man, a native of the place, and a loyal subject of the King, God bless him!” (2317).
