Recent research (Ward, 2006 ) demonstrates that separating students into small size classes by their different levels is better for literacy instruction in elementary schools. Truly, in that case, teachers can design customized lessons to meet the needs and interests of class members. In addition, detailed feedback can also be immediately imparted to better control the gap between each student. However, the overall effect of small classes is not as evident as we imagine. According to statistics launched by NAEP examination, the reading score of students from different grades stayed at a stable level from 1971 to 1996, though the class sizes experienced a downward trend in the shared period.
Students whose parents can’t afford expensive clothing can be spared the harsh words and jeers from their peers, allowing them to blend in instead of being singled out as poverty stricken or less fortunate then others, thus giving all the students the outward appearance of equals. Household income doesn’t become a visible issue with school uniforms (Benefits par. 38). On average, a family could provide its child with uniforms for a school year for between one hundred and one hundred fifty dollars, saving a small fortune versus shopping for new school clothes in stores (Summers par.12). Families with multiple children could save even more.
“Gap year students show a clear pattern of having a higher GPA than would otherwise have been predicted, and the positive effect lasts over all four years” (“Data”). With a gap year, college students are more likely to go to school with a purpose and want to do well and get good grades. Taking a one year break between high school and college allows motivation and interest to studying will be renewed. Excelling well in academics can help one get scholarships and will help them pay for their education, so they won’t have to pay as much. College can be very expensive,and not many people have the funds to pay for college.
Without grades, how else would we assess and measure a student’s abilities in a practical way that can be used for this? Without grades every applicant would have to get brought in to an interview or something similar. This would take a lot of time and become extremely tedious. Grades are not only beneficial to students after graduation, but they benefit students and teachers during school as well. Grades are clear and distinct indications of how a student is performing in school.
Sociological studies show that school uniforms help to improve academic performance. People are apt to change their action depending on what they are wearing. Since school uniforms set a serious atomosphere in the classroom by removing distractions, students may achieve their goals easier. Also, teens are sensitive to their appearance. According to some parents, their children waste as much as an hour in front of the mirror getting ready for school.
Hard work on a particular topic with full dedication and focus pertaining to his own fields of interest will surely make him achieve his goals. While coming to academics, both the intelligence and hard work comes into play very often. But, the harder they work, the more likely they will achieve greater academic success. Generally individuals with high Intellegence don't have to try that hard in school to get good or average grades; that is until high school and college. Hard work is something learned through being challenged and if a child is not challenged in their early years of education they will typically slack off in their high school and college years when hard work becomes key to success.
For example, while in high school good homework grades are able to raise your overall grade if you did not do well on tests, in college the grades in tests and major papers (essays, projects, and researches) are the most important things that provide most of the course grade. Also, in high school if someone has received the grade of D and higher then they are able to pass the course but in college someone can graduate only if their average is same or above their departmental standard. Second, there are many differences in classes between these two institutions. Although in high school for students listening is sometimes more than enough however in college students should review class notes and text material regularly and ask for information from professor teaching assistance tutoring services and even from other students. Additionally, students in high school are provided with textbooks for free, whereas in college students need to buy textbooks and class materials.

Over the past couple years or so, more and more public schools have implemented policies requiring children to wear uniforms. This policy has helped students and schools as a whole. Mandated uniforms have eliminated distractions, equalized student population, and caused students to get dressed faster in the mornings. I understand that some people feel that uniforms are a waste of time, but they can never tell anyone why.
As a result, this country has fallen far below the international average when it comes to education. For instance, countries around the globe require more from their students when it comes to the amount of homework that a student is mandated to complete on a daily basis. These countries also obligate their students to attend school more hours per day, and more days per year. In essence, it would be in the best interest of the students if our Department of Education received a lesson or two on education from their international colleagues. As much as the public school system is at fault, parental involvement would be a key factor in the success of educating students.
Academically successful students will have more employment opportunities than those with less education. Thus, academic success may mean the difference between working at a job merely “because it pays the rent” and working at a job that one enjoys (Rentner & Kober, 2001, p. 15). Research also shows that people who are academically successful • are more stable in their employment; • are more likely to have health insurance; • are less dependent on public assistance; • are less likely to engage in criminal activity; • are more active as citizens and charitable volunteers; and • are more healthy (National Alliance of Business, Inc., 1998). According to Ruby Payne in her book , A Framework for Understanding Poverty, low achievement can be closely correlated with low socioeconomic status. Poverty can be related to academic achievement in the United States.
