Single Parent Households do Produce Positive Successful Children Since 1994, it has been reported that there is 13.7 million single moms and dads currently raising their children in the U.S. Society believes that children that are brought up in single parent homes are less likely to become a positive product of their environment, however that is not true. Barack Obama, the 44th president of the United States of American, is the child of a single parent home. Obama faced several different obstacles growing up in a single parent environment ; his mother was married and divorced two times within his childhood, he was raised by not only his mother but his maternal grandparents and he resort to extra-curricular activities that such as gangs, drugs and alcohol. Yet Barack Obama currently has made history as the first African American to hold office as president of the United States of America. American society believes that in order to be successful and accomplished as an adult it all starts in the home with both parents. In order for children from single parent households to be successful they must have responsibility, independence, stability and a good moral foundation. Children from single parent homes become positive and productive individuals in society even more so than those in the home with both parents. Independence, responsibility, stability and morals are just a few of the core principles that are taught in single parent homes for children to be successful and productive in life. Winston Churchill says “The price of greatness is responsibility.”In most single parent homes children are taught at an early age to first and foremost be responsible.
