The short story called, "The Most Powerful Question a Parent Can Ask..." by 'Neil Millar' shows the most respectful approach of parents to their children rather than "Be-ers and Doers" by 'Budge Wilson' in many ways. I feel that the story by "Neil Millar" is told in a calmer manner of speaking rather than the one written by "Budge Wilson". Everyone grows up differently but the effects grow depending on the matter of time when you are taught to become responsible. Every parent teaches their child different aspects at different times. Some are earlier than others and some must be later.
T.S. Elliot once wrote “It is in fact a part of the function of education to help us escape, not from our own time -- for we are bound by that -- but from the intellectual and emotional limitations of our time” (Infinity Web Development, LLC, 2002-2010). The Americans should bring back the perception that “there is nothing we can’t be" stems from our ancestral heritage. Since the majority of the early settlers could not read or write, they worked hard to make sure the kids of the future all had a chance to learn. They believed they had a responsibility to improve themselves, to be the best they could be, to improve their abilities, and to help thy neighbors.
Synthesis Essay 2 “The most powerful question a parent can ask” by Neil Millar and “Be-ers and Doers” by Budge Wilson are about making children demonstrate great accountability. Neil Millar talks about “what kind of children do (we) want to raise” whereas Budge talks about the difference between being and doing. Both of the passages represent that being parents is a very challenging job but “the most powerful question a parent can ask “ shows the more respectful approach of parents to their children. In some families values play an important role. “(These) values pass on mother-to-mother combine with the natural instincts to love, support and nurture.” If a person was raised spending most of the time on the things that were being bad influence for them such as wrestling or teen’s reality show or their parents were too busy working and did not have enough time to check if they were keeping up with the homework and reading.
Through our program, we had to have several “workshops” with the guardians each year. It was always hard to try to teach a grown person set in their ways that yelling at their child, was not the correct way of discipline. When working in today’s public school systems, often times, actions get scrutinized too much. Telling a child that you love them might cause someone to raise their brow. Children need praise and love.
The children are the ones that will carry on our society and it is our jobs to teach them morals and values. The most important factor in children’s lives is domestic trends. Children are very impressionable and look to adults for guidance and role models. There are now many types of family units including: single parents, divorced parents, married couples, homosexual couples and other relatives acting as parents. Studies done by Sara McLanahan and Gary D. Sandefur, they had found that children raised by single parents were worse off in life than children that were raised by both parents regardless of race, educational background or if the parent was remarried.
I really like the idea of the author that there are two kinds of mind-set: fixed mind-set and growth mind-set. However, I don’t agree that it is only educators’ fault that some kids have fixed mind-set. I think that it all starts in the family, way before school. Parents think their kids are special and tell them that they can achieve everything they want. But parents often forget to mention that the key to success is hard work.
An Effective Parenting Styles Being a parent can be one of the most difficult jobs a person will ever have. It may be especially challenging when the child is in their adolescent years. Most parents want their children to become independent, productive and able to cope with the world. The older methods of parenting do not work in today's society. Teenagers, like everyone else, want to be treated with respect and seen as individuals with there own ideas.
Children also learn how to solve problems and assign household responsibilities and help each other through positive and negative issues. Children who have consistency and stability in there lives are more likely to behave positively and do well in school. Nuclear families are financially stable and are able to provide the children with greater opportunities and luxuries. Extended families are families who have three or more generations living together in the same house and are not of direct blood line consisting of grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins. Extended families workloads are shared amongst members and the woman roles are often restricted to housewives and this involves cooking, cleaning and organising the entire household.
With much speculation, this topic has become a very intriguing argument. What people must understand is that properly raising a child does not rely on the structure of a family but should be more focused on the process or values that are taught to these children as they learn to mature. Children of single parents can be just as progressive with emotional, social and behavioral skills as those with two parents. People claim that the only way for children to gain full emotional and behavioral skills is to be raised by both a mother and a father. When a topic such as this one has a broad amount of variables it is impossible to simply link these problems to only having one parent.
