The Singing Tree, by Kate Seredy A common goal among people of different nationalities and religious beliefs is to live a peaceful life. Even when nations become entangled in the destructive act of war, the common man still strives for peace. In The Singing Tree by Kate Seredy, the Hungarian people live together in peace and harmony, even in wartime as shown by their loving family life, their ability to live and work together with people of different cultures and their ability to recognize that all men are brothers. Throughout the book, the Nagys illustrate a loving family life. The Nagys family displayed how caring they are towards one another. For example, they help each other with everything they do, such as cleaning the house and taking care of the farm and the animals on the farm. Also, they all get along together no matter what they are doing, which evidences how much they love each other. The Singing Tree demonstrates that people from different cultures may live and work together for the sake of peace and harmony. Even though the men are from varied ethical backgrounds, they all teamed up and fought together in the war. They also help one another with farming during their times of need. When they are together, the men get along with one another. Their different backgrounds do not interfere with their common purpose of living in harmony. People of different backgrounds recognize that they share common needs and desires with their fellow man. Mr. Nagy gave up some of his horses so the men fighting in the war could use them for battle. The wives and sons of the men that went off to battle took care of the farms for them while they were away. If one of the other farmers needed a cow or horse they sold it to each other for a decent price. The men got along with each other, but instead, learning to deal with each others' personalities.
