But college drop outs also can able be due to the unequal college preparation given in high schools. The education system needs to be reformed so students have the opportunity to choose whether they want to go to college or do vocational training instead. A college degree is bringing more negative aspects into a student’s life therefore students, especially from working class, must know the alternatives to be able to succeed. Most of the students in the United States are middle or working class. In addition of going to school, working class students also have to get a job to be able to help out their families.
Try different calendaring systems and see which one is best. Always plan ahead on assignments and studies because then we will end up procrastinating and the results will not be good. Have some time for yourself to relax and go out with friends because college can be very exhausting and having some time for our mind to relax will be important. Once good time management skills are perfected college will not be so hard to complete. Calvo 2 Having good study skills is also very important to be a successful college student.
Then the student decides to drop to a part-time worker, register for less class hours to find more time to work on improving their grades. But what they soon fail to realize, is that now they will have to hold off on graduation a little longer. Also there are other students who just can’t afford the expenses of college, so they may end up dropping out before they even reach the second semester. These are all real examples of what many college students go through, across the
It would not be able to cut back his hours and taking a class that is not required would take a lot of his time. The Study Skills class requires note taking in his current classes. This would allow him to put more attention on the note taking and possible less understanding of the material for the specific class. Which could possibly distract him and lose his focus. One reason a student should receive extra credit to pass, is that they have trouble with that one specific subject. If you don’t understand something it’s hard to get it right on a test. Many tutoring services arn’t free, and some families don’t have the extra cash laying around. Some students after seeing there failing grade just completely give up. Portfolio Task: Module 1 Effective Study Skills are the sole foundation for a solid education(540 words) Many academic students making the transition from normal studies and everyday life skills to studies for their chosen profession start to fall behind, this is because the study time increases along with independent working , this is due students not knowing how to approach the new demands (Gettinger & Seibert – 2002). In addition students do not know how to approach the new demands required for independent study.– Metacognition is the awareness of one’s own learning and thinking process, that enables each student to take responsibility for their learning, allowing them to set goals, self assess and implement, however the metacognition side is not taught in the early years. What a student perceives as study skills will depend on the individual, what is effective for one will not be for the other. Study skills are developed through frequent use and become a natural action; skilful reading develops by constant reading and writing by writing. As the mind becomes more fine tuned the student will realise they can apply more to analytical and critical thinking - “Constant practice and critical reflection is essential if the student wishes to succeed” (Cottrell, 2013 P66).

This attitude undermines our best interests.” After we graduate from university, a lot of people want to find a stable job and then fight for it.
I believe it is because of money and competitions of universities. As soon as a rival university sets their price higher the other universities sets their price higher as well. Universities used to have the government help them financially but that help has reduced a great amount and the competition to get students has greatly increased. Schools are trying to build a better foundation for students to attend but with money being spent to make the university “look better” the price to attend goes higher. With the economy being so hard right now to get a “good” enough job to be able to afford to go to a major university is hard I think that many students should make their own business.
short term review is not likely to be of much benefit.” Short term review and trying to each students content are, in essence, what coaching programs are doing. Again, students should prepare in the long run for entrance exams by taking harder classes in high school. Unfortunately, in the United States many students from low-income families are in schools where they are not encouraged to take rigorous academic courses or the courses are just not offered to the students.
