With today’s economy, schools are a having hard time keeping up with the new technology for students. With an iMac that cost $2000, the chance for a school to get a set of iMacs for their students is slim. However, the advancements of Internet and mobile devices allow cellphones to replace computers. Cellphones are small, portable and easily connected to the internet. But the question remains, why aren’t school using cellphones as an educational tool? Even though the devices containing so many tech abilities similar to computers, many educators are oppose the use of cellphones during school. Most of those who oppose the issue, of course, are the teachers who think cellphones cause disruption during class while they are trying to teach. Those who support the issue are the students and a small amount of teachers who use cellphones as a replacement for computers. As a result both students and educators point out that cellphone usage in class isn’t necessarily a distraction but can be used to benefit education. In general, cellphones are a useful device in daily life. No matter what the gender or age group, everyone uses cellphones whether they are in the store or walking down the street. What are the benefits of the device being used in a classroom? The answer varies. For instance, cellphones can help students and their parents stay connected. Since the event of 9/11, parents want to be able to get in touch with their kids in case of emergency arises. Taking pictures of projects and presentations can allow students to send them to their parents who are not with them physically. With the technology present, students can also share notes and discuss assignments with their classmates if they missed school.
