If I can stop smoking, that means everybody can, too. Smoking kills people. Remember that, people. Do not give into peer pressure for smoking because it isn’t worth it, and it’s hard as hell to quit smoking. Smoking doesn’t make you cool or feel cool.
Sophie Zinolidis QUIT SMOKING Smoking is bad and we all know it. But not many knows why it’s so dangerous. They just know it’s a fact. And even more important, there are several bad things that comes with smoking and still so many people smoke. So why is smoking bad for you?
Although censorship is needed with issues concerning children, majority of censorship is a violation of our rights because what one person may find offensive and obscene does not necessarily represent that all citizens. The freedom to read is essential to the democratic way of life. But today, that freedom is under attack. The government is working to remove both books and periodicals from sale, to exclude certain books from public schools, to censor and silence magazines and newspapers, and to limit "controversial" books and periodicals to the general public. The overthrow of reading materials is defeat of creative thought.
Zubair Abedin Block 4 The theme of the story Fahrenheit 451 written by Ray Bradbury is censorship. They live in the future where books are banned and the people are uneducated. If people have books in there possession then they’re in danger of getting in trouble by the authority. The main character of this book is Guy Montag who is a fireman, but in the future firemen start fires instead of putting them out, they start the fires in places that have books in them. He dismisses this argument by listing other activities that could be harmful to an individual such as smoking tobacco, riding motorcycles, and having unprotected sex. This comparison makes the idea of prohibiting these activities because they are harmful to the individual participating in them seem rather ridiculous. Basically, illegal drugs CAN be harmful to a user; at the same time, smoking tobacco IS harmful to a user, yet smoking cigarettes is perfectly legal. I think Huemer’s argument effectively defeats the prohibitionists’ standpoint that drugs should be outlawed because they are harmful to the user. Second, the author addresses the prohibitionist argument that illegal drugs cause harm to people around the user as well.
