I believe that with the many technological advances that have been made throughout history computers have made life easier. I believe that computers have changed the world, as a lot of things can now be done through computers. A person can find a computer everywhere – at school, at work, and at home. A lot of a person’s daily activities either involve the use of or depend on information from a computer. I believe the educational environment is one of the most important places where the computer is placed.
Gen X is Individualistic; they came from an era of two-income families, rising divorce rates, and a faltering economy. As a result, Gen X has shown to be independent, resourceful, self-efficient, and they value freedom and responsibility. Gen X is also Technologically Adept; this population grew up with computers and technology. They are able to better adapt to the changing technology that is being put into law firms and corporate legal departments. Generation X is more comfortable using PDA’s, cell phones, email, laptops, Blackberry’s etc... Gen X is a very flexible generation.
Take a moment to think about how the world has evolved over the many generations of man- how amazing inventions have replaced old means of communication and production, and how society has changed within history. It’s safe to say that a great deal of the changes in society are due to the ingoing advancements in technology. It seems as if companies worldwide are at a constant battle to develop the next “big thing” in the technological world. Society has adapted to these technological advancements in a constant race of “ keeping up with the Jones’ “. Consumers must have the best and newest electronic devices, and new technology replaces old.
The reason why jobs often require advanced skills, particularly computer skills, is that technology is developing rapidly. Technology developments create more new positions in the workplace and bring new ways to accomplish traditional tasks. Those of workers who are engaged in traditional jobs, such as teachers, bankers, managers and so on, not only need traditional skills, but also they must update their technological skills in order to remain competitive in the workplace. As a result, there is a need for them to upgrade skills through retaining by companies. In addition, technology results in an increased tendency towards post graduation training.
