The “selling” section of Enrenreich’s book was really the turning point of the book for me. The first two sections focused on jobs that I really could not relate to, as they were random businesses in areas of the United States I have never visited. When Barbara decided to take a job at Wal-‐Mart, America’s largest private employer, I was finally able to relate to her struggles because I am very familiar with the company. After reading about the struggles both Ehrenreich and her close co-‐workers faced, I am very supportive of her decision to leave Wal-‐Mart in hopes of securing a higher income job elsewhere. The company seems to really know and understand the situation their employees are in and they definitely use that to the advantage
We used to have a bank that I would put the money that I collected into every week at school. It was great for me to save up my money and not spend it right away. It taught me the value of money and disciplined me by not letting me spend it on different things. I really liked looking at my bank account grow and grow every week when I brought in my next amount of pennies. Pennies seem to be scarce nowadays because they are not as important as they used to be.
During the past few months I have visited K-Mart many times to make purchases as the location is very close to my employer. I find the store to be clean and neat; however the store is very large and sometimes can be confusing in where to find things. Products seem to be spread out and rather than keeping seasonal products up front where the customer can get to them easily the customer has to walk all the way to the back of the store to get to them. I am sure that the reason for this is to make the customers walk past the jewelry counter, electronics, toys and cosmetics in hopes they will purchase additional items. Many of the sales associates are friendly, however they seem to be hard to find.
He's so dreamy! I wish my mom would buy me that, but we don't ever have any money to spend on that kind of stuff!” my friend said this, “Well, you could always DOWNLOAD it off of the internet for free!” (she told me how to do it) after I got off the phone with her I couldn't wait to download my first batch of songs but, it didn't stop there. Growing up in my life has never been easy, we CONSTANTLY run out of Nutella, my curfew is only 8:30pm On school nights, and I have to take the trash out EVERY NIGHT. With that in mind, I thought swapping music online would give other repressed children an opportunity to see some positivity In their cruel lives. I thought it was the right thing to do.” Given the consequences Brianna LaHara faces, I believe the “Clean State Program” is a very reasonable program.
With both of their moms working minimum wage jobs and never being home to support their family the children had to cook and fend for themselves on a daily basis. Neither John nor Robbie had ever tried to steal or violate any laws, but growing up below the poverty line they had always wondered what it would be like to have all the money and clothes that they wanted. One day when both Robbie and John were walking down 1st Ave in Saskatoon in front of Midtown Plaza. Robbie had come up with the idea to go into the mall, and steal from stores. Robbie’s plan was to walk into stores take clothes off the racks take them into a change room and put them on; under the clothes they already were wearing.
Even on his last day of school, all Montressor could think of was being able to live freely without the daily worry of running into Fortunato. Little did he know that just because school was over, Fortunato was not out of his life entirely. My father was never an endearing person; especially not after my mother left. My mother was perfect in my eyes with only one mistake as far as I could tell, leaving. Maybe she did not want me or maybe she just did not want the life of a mother, I will never know for sure.
After a month my mom also got job so after that we spent our life with ease but at the same time we were saving money. Next trouble was we all had to stay dependent on ride because of lack of car. We were walking to Wal-Mart and other stores to get grocery. It was hard but we did it also in winter too I still remember that me and my mom were walking 2-3 miles every day from work to house. So probably after one year we got our first used car.
It was in the early 50’s where he first began entwined with the mob. The mob was on a turning point in the early 50’s. Though he never took part in any mob activities, he still gathered money from family that did. He never did any mob dealings because he felt that if he ever needed to gain money or possessions, he would gain them for the benefit of others. “This is my personal favorite characteristic of him, and most likely the smartest decision he ever made in his life.” States my Aunt Jenny about the mobster deals that Da’dooch turns down.
Americans never just sit back and ever truly relax. Personally, I cannot say I am any different than your typical American. If I’m not at work, I’m at school; if I’m not at school, I’m doing homework or cleaning. Every free chance I get after that is spent with my family and friends doing something entertaining. So even when I am free from all of my responsibilities, I still don’t ever truly feel “relaxed”.
When I was in my Junior High School years, I dropped out because I had really low grades and I was super behind in all my classes. My family and I were migrants; my entire childhood was spent in the fields and I literally mean in the fields not just working up North. I would spend half of the school year working with my parents and sisters, so by the time I went back to school, I was behind and very lost in all my subjects. I would stay after school every single day until I catched up with every missing grade that I had. Never did I enjoy staying after school just to fill up grades I never wanted to fail.
