We also communicate in order to motivate the people around us to name a few reasons. 2. Explain how effective communication affects all aspects of own work whilst working in childcare effective communication is paramount. We communicate with the children in order to teach them new skills, we also use communication to encourage and motivate the children as well as other staff on a daily basis. We as staff must communicate in order to keep the children safe from relaying information of a hazard check or announcing the finding of a potential hazard to passing on concerns about a child if that should arise.
Effective communication is vital when developing positive relationships with children young people and adults. Some people really struggle with their learning or they may have confidence issues, these issues may stop them from communicating freely. Treating them in a calm, friendly, positive, and praising manner could mean the difference between them trusting me and closing down completely and giving up. It is important to have a positive relationship with children and young adults because if they feel comfortable and secure with the adult and their setting whether it is a childminder, a nursery or a school they will separate more easily from their parent or carer. If they feel emotionally secure they are more likely to participate in the play and learning activities.
At this age we need to remember to comfort the child if they become upset and be someone they can speak to if they choose too, it is important we do not shout at children as this could cause them more upset and distress. Also we should be lively and energetic and enjoy taking part in activities they enjoy and provide new challenges for them. Primary schools- During this age it is important to listen to the children however the teaching assistant must make eye contact, lower themselves to the child’s level and speak to the child in a positive way. Children will start to learn boundaries during this time so it is about enforcing them in a positive and encouraging way. Encouragement is also important during all aspects of school life such as during lessons, their work, forming friendships and finding new things because this will help the children to try new things and to progress and move forward with their development and education.

CU1515- Introduction to Communication in Health, Social Care or Children's and Young people setting. 1.1- People communicate in many different ways such as verbal, written, gesture, sign language and behavior. Good communication is good in the workplace because it breaks down any barriers between parents, colleagues, children and outside agencies. Good communication enables parents to discuss information on there child, parents will feel confident enough to air any issues or concerns they have, communication in the work place is important because any breakdown in communication can cause people not sharing important information or not being confident enough to put ideas forward or get more information about there child off other members of staff. We communicate with outside agencies such as social services, having a strong communication with them enables both settings share information freely.
If a person is unable to speak then body language will be used such as touching, hand gestures, sign language and facial expressions. We all communicate in different ways and the tone, pitch, stress and clarity are very important to the meaning of speech. Also it’s important to speak clearly and slowly, you must have eye contact and position yourself to the level of the individual to show them that you are listening. 1.2 Explain how effective communication affects all aspects of own work. We need to communicate with people all the time, but most of all the person who we are supporting, also including family and friends who are most likely to be involved in the support of the individual.
Obviously no bad language should ever be use used around children and young people. It is vital to allow children and young people the opportunity to speak and it is important to make sure others are listening to them, also you need to make sure that each person has an equal chance to speak, and that no one talks all the time whilst others don't speak at all. Turn taking is a pivotal part of learning about effective communication. Encourage those who may not be as comfortable with talking, but never put the person on the spot and make them feel they have to. This could have a detrimental effect on the individuals confidence.
Working in a children and young people’s setting is not only about building and maintaining relationships with children and young people but with families, parents, carers and other professionals. Sharing and gaining information is very important throughout people’s lives, it helps us to learn, adapt, work with not only children and young people, but parents, carers, colleagues and other professionals. This is an essential reason for communication for everyone. Sharing ideas ad feelings is equally as important, everyone’s thoughts are different and how one person sees an object may not be how others see it, it is important to express ideas in order to allow everyone to express their creativeness. All humans have emotions, if we do not express our feelings and needs we can become very frustrated, feel isolated or not feel fulfilled.
It is also very important to be aware of the immediate needs of the person you are communicating with for example if they are experiencing some form of personal crisis, they are upset, unwell or excited to ensure they feel valued and supported. Each of the people I need to communicate with may need that communication using different methods for example written reports for managers and social workers, emails, forms and letters for Ofsted, teachers and other professionals. The young people I work with need me to communicate with them in language they understand, not using terminology and jargon that confuses them and means they ‘switch off’ and do not listen. Knowing my audience is important so I can adapt my communication effectively; for example with a good friend I may be upfront and blunt, however with my manager I would want to speak with more respect. Good effective communication requires there to be trust and respect within the relationship.
Erikson’s stages of Personality development are stage 1) Trust vs. Mistrust, 2) Autonomy vs. Shame & Doubt 3) Initiative vs. Guilt, and last stage 4) Industry vs. Inferiority. In Erikson’s first stage of development is very important because it is trust vs. mistrust and without trust from a teacher or adult their will not be room for any other accomplishments. In stage one of trust vs. mistrust it depends on how the mother relationship is without the child. If children do not trust people then the will mistrust them thus leading to personality problems and classroom problems.
