In the beginning of the article laird starts out by saying “The honey moon is over.” Laird is trying to paint a portrait that she used to love to be an online teacher. She could meet new students from everywhere and post simple assignments and her day would go by smoothly. But now this seasoned online teacher is feeling the stress of her online composition class. In The Classroom Laird gets to see her students and her students get to see her. They can react to the way she is feeling and they can get an answer to a question right there.
Barbara was able to maintain herself economically. She tried to spend less so that she will have enough money for her house rent, gas and food. She bought no clothing except for the required slacks. She made the decision to move close to where she works due to the amount spent on gas daily. “in a month, I earned approximately $1040 and spent $517 on food, gas, toiletries, laundry, phone, and utilities”( 75 reading across the curriculum, pages 395-426, paragraph 65).
First of all transportation is hard for me after starting college. I am hoping right now to get bless with a car because it’s hard to use the bus to school then to work and any other places I need to go. Now that most of my college work has to be done in school because a lack of materials it’s hard to take a hour bus ride whenever I need to finish work. The bus takes time out of my life and it cuts my time by a lot for me to go to work and all. It’ll be amazing to have a car to help me get places faster and so I can finish what I need to without rushing.
45 days in school and 15 days off will cause too many disruptions. The Supplies will have to be bought as well. Kids forget the same amount of knowledge during the breaks. They also get summer jobs. They don’t just go to school; they get paid by others to save up for college.
After a month my mom also got job so after that we spent our life with ease but at the same time we were saving money. Next trouble was we all had to stay dependent on ride because of lack of car. We were walking to Wal-Mart and other stores to get grocery. It was hard but we did it also in winter too I still remember that me and my mom were walking 2-3 miles every day from work to house. So probably after one year we got our first used car.
Luckily, my husband found another job and the situation dissipated. No permanent change was seen in Loke after this. When Loke is four years old, our household income increases and we are able to buy our first house in the suburbs just in time for our second child to be born. Besides expecting a second child, we moved because the neighborhood in our city apartment was not ideal for young children. There was no place to play and certainly no place to let them play alone.
In my house, internet is a necessity because of online classes, but having a house phone isn’t necessary so we could cut that out. I made my own laundry detergent and have saved over $25 so far. We won’t be able to go out to eat, cutting down to basic satellite, not going many places or doing a whole lot that costs money. The job market is also terrible right now, and it doesn’t help that I have been a stay at home mom for thirteen years. You can’t be hired without experience, but you can’t get experience if you don’t get hired.
As a freshman, I understood that the rigors of taking 18hrs credit hours of class work would be challenging. I thought I could handle the workload and I still believe that I could have, except that both my paternal grandfather and my maternal grandmother become very ill while I attended Richmond. As my parents first born child, I was extremely close to my grandparents. I became emotionally distraught concerning their conditions and it began to affect my ability to focus on my studies. They each have since passed with cancer, nearly 8 months
It seems many people had lost their jobs during the last 6 years, which created less jobs. So many jobs opportunity had been cut of; it was one of the biggest problems we had, because it is very difficult to find a stable job out here in California. During the last year on December, I’ve been searching around for the best job I can find as possible, but the jobs available were mostly at the fast food restaurants, and very low wages. So if we were not being able to find a better job, surely she cannot afford to pay her bills and also for her school as well. Secondly, because of school fees for a non-California residency is way more expensive.
But this is unfair to the students whose parents make too much annually to qualify for government assistance. If the tuition rates were to stop increasing more students would be able to afford and attend college without the extra needed support from the government. Getting into college shouldn’t be based on how much money you have but on how well you preformed in high school and deserve to be there. It’s not fair or right for someone to have all the money in the world to get into Harvard who isn’t all that intelligent when someone who does get into Harvard but can’t afford to go due to the $55,000 year tuition cost. If all the colleges were on a more even level playing field for cost your acceptance into college would be based solely on your previous academic achievement not who you are or how much money you have.
