Berdahl and Karl Aquino Sexual harassment is defined as a person making sexual advances that may be considered offensive by someone else. Many people believe that sexual harassment can be damaging but research has questioned if all sexual behavior can be considered damaging. In a study done by Karl Aquino and Jennifer Berdahl titled, “Sexual Behavior at Work: Fun or Folly” it investigates the idea of sexual harassment and how people view sexual behavior and how their sexual orientation plays a factor in their opinions. The research conducted also focused on how the victim felt about sexual harassment and what the outcomes were psychologically. There have been various studies done in the past on the topic of sexual harassment and how people react. From these studies, there has been a consistency in outcomes that show men see sexual behavior as fun and pleasurable. For this reason, women tend to feel inferior to men because of the power difference. This power difference mainly applies to sexual harassment that is displayed at work. However, the research done by Aquino and Berdahl is the first of its kind to determine the specific outcomes from sexual harassment exposure. In the study conducted, there were three hypothesis made in order to organize the data accordingly. The first hypothesis was, if men initiated the sexual behavior around other men the behavior is seen as mostly positive; if sexual behavior is initiated by men around women, the behavior is seen as negative and if sexual behavior is initiated by women it is seen as neutral by both men and women.
