For Many years sexism has played a huge role in the United States, whether it is in the workplace or in private homes. Seixsm is the discrimation based on sex. Seixsm can be compared to rasicm; in both the differences between the two ( or more) groups are viewed as superior to inferior. An alarming number of women soldiers are being sexually abused by their comrades-in-arms, both at war and at home. This fact has received a fair amount of attention lately from researchers and the press – and deservedly so.But the attention always focuses on the women: where they were when assaulted, their relations with the assailant, the effects on their mental health and careers, whether they are being adequately helped, and so on.
This one is greatly affected by the media. A majority of musicians have problems with drugs, alcohol, public disorder and infidelity. Most come from broken families with toxic environments. They reflect their emotions in the songs they write which greatly influence listeners. The media likes to capture rock musicians using drugs at wild parties and acting irresponsible to get attention from people and increase magazine sales and ratings.
Essentially, the entertainments that we see and hear from men deal with violence, and women entertain the viewers sexually. Evidently, the ads presented in “Two ways a woman can get hurt,” Kilbourne expounds on how women’s sexual appeal hurts themselves. In “From Fly-Girls to Bitches and Hos,” Morgan relates gender behavior to hip hop lyrics. Furthermore, she questions
Sociology-101 September 22, 2009 Rap Music has a Negative Impact on Young Adults Introduction: Rap music has become one of the most popular genres for young adults. I chose this topic to research because I think that rap music is very influential and causes a negative effect in the young adults’ life. When listening to rap songs, a lot of times an individual will hear many different negative references ranging from, implications that women are not equal to men and that money is everything, to rapping about sex and drugs like they are common everyday activities. People, young adults especially, are very vulnerable when it comes to suggestions, whether they are positive or negative. If someone constantly tells a teenager to steal a candy bar, most likely that teenager will eventually steal the candy bar.
My opinion of the movie “The Mack” is that it sheds a negative light on young black women and men. It clearly gave the impression that all women are hoes and black men can’t live the good life without pimping or selling crack. Young urban minorities watch television and movies and they see the glitz and glamour think it’s cool and want the fame. Goldie who considered himself to be a “hero” but in reality he was toxic, he was a villain, he was a murder, a drug dealer and a pimp. I would have to say that his brother was more so “The hero” but of course the movie had little focus on that.
Which he does have a point because rap music does bear the brunt of most criticism in the music industry for all the vulgarity that it has in the lyrics and Eminem is no exception when it comes down to the vulgarity of his music. Although “more people are aware that
Children from any age group have been introduced to all sorts of music genres containing explicit language and situations. The majority of music released is either about having sex, making money, going to the clubs, or doing drugs. Women are also being seen as merely sexual objects, and degrading them has shockingly been natural to hear amongst the general public. For example, in Akon's song "Smack That" featuring Eminem quotes, "Smack that, all on the floor, smack that, give me some more." Having the entire nation listening to these lyrics takes a step back in civilization and reversing any progress feminists have done to gain respect of women.
Hip Hop Paper Hip Hop/Rap has a negative influence on the African American culture because it degrades women, promotes violence, and overly uses the "N" word. In most hip hop and rap lyrics and videos women are degraded to less than nothing. For example, in the lyrics to Dr Dre's single "Bitches ain't Shit" he says “Bitches ain't shit but hoes and tricks. Lick on these nuts and suck the dick. Get the fuck out after you're done".
As is the case for most viral phenomena, there are those who aren’t too keen on hip-hop Elvis’s lyrical prose. They fear that his overwhelming invectives can and will entreat harm upon his avid listeners. In spite of the schism between the lovers and the haters, Eminem has undoubtedly taken the music industry by storm; and in turn, our views and considerations. While the zealots of ‘Slim Shady’ defend his lyrics and context with phrases like ‘artistic expression’ and ‘free speech’, as made evident in Jackson Katz’s essay entitled Eminem’s Popularity Is a Major Setback for Girls and Women, Eminem’s cultural trailblazing comes with a less-than charismatic price: widespread acceptance of violence against anyone and everyone who falls within the crosshairs of his philosophy. People see this on a day-to-day basis, sometimes blatantly, other times situated behind the cleverly posed acceptances found in daily public life: Guy eyes a fetching girl and advances discretely.
Secondly when it comes to crime because everything is censored the news is pretty one sided, because in today’s society when it comes to crimes the media mostly focus on minority groups. As a result of this tendency, there are now countless stories in the press and television news, and even in sitcoms and movies, about the barbaric cultures of people of colour. The emphasis is usually on specific rituals, rites, and of course, the abject status of women within these countries’. (Jiwani, n.d.) This reference from an article entitled racism and the media is very true, because although they
