Sex trafficking is a much more serious crime than people think it is – a business of female empowerment that sell sexual services in exchange for money – when, however, it is an underground market of enslaved women forced into unwilling intercourse. Prostitution starts out at a fairly young age – ages 11-14 – where pimps use social media networks and blogs to befriend vulnerably young women. They’ll use seducing woos and flaunts to lure these girls in, comforting them with protection & care and buying them tangible desires. Seeing the point of view on sex trafficking from a prostitute as a victim – rather than a sex-worker – is one factor that change my view on sex trafficking. In the film, a turned-prostitute provides their life story as a former prostitute and how they were able to escape the slavery of sex trafficking.
For example, in the article “Should All Convicted Sex Offenders Be Required to Register?” by Josh Farley, the sex offender here was required to register as one for the sexual/mutual relationship he had with a minor while in his 30s. Okay, the child was under 18, but he is not to blame for a sexual relationship that both parties agreed to at the time. I hate to say it, but unfortunately a lot of children make these “grown-up” decisions without understanding the consequences, and to get them out of “trouble” they blame the “other guy”, which in most cases, like this one, the “other guy” is the one who pays because of what laws state. Even though the child knew what was going on and wanted to engage in a sexual relationship with this man, the adult gets charged because the child didn’t want to take responsibility so they used the easy way out and played victim. Of course one may argue, she was 15 and didn’t know what she was doing.
If anything, it offers the leeway for brothel owners, pimps, and johns to exploit women and children. And the government gets to part take that exploitation through taxation. If sex workers’ advocates are looking for a solution to violence against women under the current criminalized sex market, they should advocate for decriminalizing prostitution. Allow women to sell their bodies. But, criminalize buyers, pimps, and brothel owners who profit from taking away a woman’s divine rights over their own bodies.
Children, especially, are victimized by those sexual predators for reasons such as child’s availability, anonymity, physiological sicknesses, and the lack of child-protection laws. Some children aren’t supervised; they get into the hands of sexual criminals and they, children, don’t say what happened to their family. Moreover, prostitution, for both genders, is also a form of violence. Prostitutes live under harsh circumstances that make them have no choice to sell their bodies. The vast majority of prostitutes in Morocco are people that sell their body to foreigners and locals at a very low price, only to survive.
The Reality of Human Sex Trafficking Human sex trafficking has become a major international issue. Millions of people are abducted, transported, and exploited for money all over the world. The article “Rescued from Sex Slavery” published by CBS Broadcasting goes into detail about the world of sex slavery. In the article it talks about three different girls that were captured as sex slaves. 48 Hours correspondent Peter Van Sant traveled to Romania to pose as a sex trafficker.
Yet, the question lingers, why do girls get involved in prostitution? Over half of the results show that is was common for these girls to be coerced by someone to engage into these acts, others do it for personal spending or to buy drugs and alcohol. Yet, there lingers also a small amount this it is based off of family history, peer pressure and/or money for basic
Richard Allen Davis, according to Tucker Carlson has “a monstrous personality (168)” and was apprehended for killing Polly Klass after being released multiple times. In both of these cases, and in many others, authorities were warned early that they were dealing with very dangerous predators. The “revolving door (Breig168)” is so quick that police know to question freshly paroled convicts once a new rape case occurs (Breig168). The social cost of letting career predators go every year is enormous. According to a recent study,
I cannot imagine the pain and suffering these young girls and women dealt with during this horrible experience and how they even recover and live a normal life afterward. Sex Trafficking is no secret and has been going on for years and years. Trafficking became politically known in the 1900s, from there the United States passed the Mann Act in 1910 which “forbids transporting a person across state or international lines for prostution or other immoral purposes (www.protectionproject.org). Globally, it is tied with the illegal arms trade as the second largest criminal activity, following the drug trade (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_trafficking). There are
