Sermon On The Mount As Written By Matthew The Sermon On the Mount as written by Matthew, begins with nine sayings of Jesus Christ called Beatitudes which serve as a guide to happy living. This sayings (or teachings) covers chapters five, six and seven of the book of Matthew in the Holy Bible. As a normal practice, Jesus used to go out and preach to people by telling stories and parables in order to win souls to the Lord, live a better life and ultimately go to heaven. On this occasion, Jesus went to a mountain and taught his disciples. He began by saying, “Blessed are the poor in spirit; for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5 vs 3) “Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted. (Matthew 5 vs 4) “Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth. (Matthew 5 vs 5) Jesus went further to explain to his disciples that they would be persecuted falsely from time to time, but they should rejoice because they have great reward awaiting them in heaven. He said that the disciples (and every believer of Christ) should always strive to do good works since they are the light of the world and others would glorify God in heaven. Jesus advised his followers to be righteous at all times and teach same to others, never to kill, commit adultery and never to revenge others but should leave vengeance for him. He also admonished that his followers should always love others, even their enemies. The disciples of Jesus were warned never to say in the open or make known unto others, any good deed that has been done by them to others as such act would not earn them any reward from God. He also taught his disciples how to say the Lord’s prayer, forgiveness, giving and doing unto others as you would want them to do unto you (“Golden Rule”), never to act as hypocrites nor worry about what to eat tomorrow (for the Lord God would always provide).
