November 26, 2011, Saturday afternoon, a serendipity walk was done at Tiendesitas, Pasig City. Traffic was light on that particular day. Noticeably, public transportation was infrequent and clients/customers came via private vehicles. Tiendesitas sits on a 30,000 square meter area within Frontera Verde, which houses 12 Maranao architecture-inspired pavilions called “villages.” (1) When Tiendesitas was first established in 2005, it was the sole commercial mecca in the area. But after several years, the area is surrounded by several establishments, from a supermarket to children’s activity areas and many more. What did we see at Tiendesitas? As the word is defined, tiendesitas means “a collection of little stores” and it rivals the highly successful and world-renowned Chatuchak Market of Bangkok. (2) Business enterprises seen at Tiendesitas include native food, fashion wear and accessories, furniture, antiques, handicrafts, personal care and novelty items, pets, plants, and other Philippine–made products (categorized as “villages”) and was a partner of WOW Philippines campaign of the Department of Tourism. After touring the area for almost an hour, the activity was culminated by, like what most shoppers do after a purchasing spree, a DINING experience (the area has an al fresco atmosphere, thus it was warm/hot during that time to the point of discomfort). From the said walk, the group members looked for from what seemed a saturated yet booming business enterprise with possible trade ventures. Brainstorming produced the following ideas with target markets and their corresponding needs or services in mind: One could take advantage of the hot and humid ambience in the area and can open up ice cream stalls or ‘COOLING STATIONS” in each shopping area or “village”, where customers can buy ice cream cones or cold drinks (e,g tea concoctions ) or food and finish it
