Understand the importance of diversity, equality and inclusion. 1.1 Explain what is meant by Diversity Equality Inclusion The importance of diversity in a care setting is to ensure acceptance and respect is present and maintained as each individual is unique. It is essential that all differences such as race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, economic status, age, physical abilities, religious beliefs, political beliefs and any other ideologies are accepted and that any knowledge of a persons individual beliefs/status' are not affecting the work carried out in the work place this also includes treating everyone with the same amount respect as any discrimination made may have severe consequences and could result in them feeling upset and uncomfortable within the work place. Inclusion is another important factor within healthcare. Everyone must be included and they should never be left feeling alienated or excluded from anything. If this happens it would affect the quality of life of any individual and as a carer we must ensure the maximum quality of life is ensured for anyone under our care. 1.2 Describe the potential effects of discrimination The effects of any kind of discrimination can cause a tense atmosphere making problems in the entire workplace for colleagues and the individuals in our care. This will create poor working conditions therefore affecting the quality of life for the individuals with in the care. This could result in the individual feeling unwanted and an outcast, consequently creating health issues such as eating disorders, behavioural problems, depression, anger, loss of self-esteem, isolation and a loss of motivation and confidence. 1.3 Explain how inclusive practise promotes equality and supports diversity Inclusive practise helps to promote the equality and helps to support diversity with a
