Taelor Mitten 8/22/2012 GSW 1110 The Secret Life....Isn’t so “Secret” With all of the television shows now a days containing teenage pregnancy such as The Secret Life of The American Teenager, Teen Mom, Teen Mom 2, and Sixteen and Pregnant, The Secret Life of The American Teenage may some of the worst critics. As many young people from all around already know, the popular television show, The Secret Life of The American Teenager, tells the story of a 15 year old girl who unexpectedly gets pregnant “one day at band camp”, and all the struggles her and her family go through because of her one mistake to give into peer pressure. Many parents and viewers express the concern that they feel the show glamourizes teenage pregnancy, and gives young girls the wrong idea about having a baby too early in life and the consequences and responsibilities that go along with it. I feel that the show very successfully portrays all the pressure, rejection and disapproving looks she receives from her fellow students, neighbors, and even her own family. It also shows different situations with other characters in this series and their own hardships that they face as a result of youngsters engaging in sexual activities.
