Safety belts can prevent death in about half of these accidents,” (Parlay International). Wearing a seat belt in a accident raises the likely living through the accident and not wearing a seat belt puts your own life on the line. Why would the government spend money on advertisement for wearing seat belts if it would not make people safer?

NHTSA estimates that in 2010, helmet use saved the lives of 1,544 motorcyclists, and an additional 709 lives might have been saved if all motorcyclists had worn helmets (NHTSA, unpublished data, 2012). With motorcycle ownership at an all-time high (8.2 million registered motorcycles in 2010, compared with 4.3 million in 2000), motorcycle-related deaths and their associated costs are expected to remain at high levels unless more effective protective measures are implemented . Helmets are proven to save lives and money. Universal helmet laws are the most effective way to increase helmet use. (CDC MMWR) It is clear that helmet laws save lives.
This helps to stop accidents because it removes distractions from a p-plate driver so they can focus solely on driving. Another danger P-plate drivers face while on the roads is their driving speed. If a driver is going too fast, they are not able to stop fast enough or pay enough attention while driving, which can cause accidents. The current p-plate laws are effective in reducing accidents through a drivers speed by introducing laws which limit p-plate drivers to the speed of 90km/h, as well as not allowing p-plate drivers to drive turbo or supercharged engines or have modifications in their engines. These p-plate laws are affective in reducing accidents on the road, because they reduce p-plate drivers to a low speed as well as slow cars.
''It takes away any ambiguity about 'am I below the limit or not' and the errors people make in judging whether they are OK to drive when they are not.'' A total of 2837 people aged 18 to 25 died on Victorian roads between 1987 and 2012. This age group accounted for more than a quarter of all road deaths despite making up only about 12 per cent of the population. Vicki Richardson, whose 20-year-old daughter Brooke was killed while texting and driving last December, said extending probationary license restrictions would save lives. ''I don't think young adults have that sense or fear factor in them until they are about 25,'' Ms Richardson said.
In most states, police officers are not allowed to pull drivers over for texting while driving. There must be some other infraction (GHSA, 2013). Since implementing higher fines, Alaska distracted driving fatalities have steadily declined. In 2004, 101 fatal crashes were reported compared to only 50 in 2013. This validates, harsher penalties can make a difference and save lives (Alaska DOT, 2014).
This bad habit does not help the young kids that ride in the car with their parents because the majority of parents either text or talk on the phone while driving with their children in the vehicle. People often go through a drive-thru on their lunch break because it’s quick and simple. What people do not realize is that eating while driving is also a dangerous habit to have while driving. Eating while driving is the worst form of distraction for a driver. A study done by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration states that drivers who eat while they drive increases the odds of having an accident by almost 80%.
Evidence Research: * I have found that 1.6 million auto accidents per year, which is equal to 28%, are caused by cell phone use and texting and driving. * Also, another scary thought is that texting and driving is equivalent to a driver who has had 4 beers and then started to drive. E. Conclusion I propose that a state ban of texting and driving will alleviate most of the accidents that are happening now days due to this major distraction that only requires a driver’s eye for 5 seconds. In those five seconds, if traveling at 55 MPH, a driver can go the distance of a football field (Bowers, 2014) and can cause a horrific accident. It has been stated in research, that 1.6 million of auto accidents are caused by cell phone us and texting, which is 28% (Pascual-Ferrá, Liu, & Beatty, Meta-Analytic Comparison of the Effects of Text Messaging to Substance-Induced Impairment on Driving Performance, 2012), as well as texting and driving is equivalent to someone who has drank 4 beers, (Bowers, 2014) or someone who has decided to get high off of some kind of illegal drug, and then decided to get behind the wheel and drive.
We cannot legally purchase a handgun, gamble in a casino, or adopt a child until the age of twenty one. These are a high level of responsibility and our leaders and patrons feel they are at equal levels. Our Minimum Legal Drinking Age has reduced traffic accidents and fatalities. 100 of 102 analyses inquired in a 202 meta-study found that a higher legal drinking age associates with lower rates of automobile accidents. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration estimated a 13% decrease in car fatalities in 1975-2008 saving approximately 27,052 lives since then.
