SDLC Method for ACME As requested by Acme to choose a favorable SDLC model for use in upgrading their technology quickly and efficiently. The best SDLC model to use in this case would be the waterfall model. The waterfall model is best fit for Acme as it would require the least amount of time to implement the new technology to their system. Since Acme already has an existing system, they are more interested in upgrading the system, not implementing a new system each time they want to upgrade. The waterfall model assumes the various phases can be carried out and completed entirely sequentially. A detailed plan is first developed, then the requirements are thoroughly specified, then the system is designed down to the last algorithm. Then the system is programmed, tested and installed. Once a project drops over the waterfall into the next phase, there is no going back. In practice the waterfall approach requires rigid planning and final decision making at each step of the development. (John W. Satzinger, 2004) Since Acme is looking at upgrading the technology on an existing system quickly to stay in competition with its leading competitors, the waterfall approach would be their best method to use as it would allow them to implement the new technology the quickest. Going from the planning phase (deciding which technology to upgrade and implement), to the analysis phase (confirming the new technology will in fact be compatible with the existing system), to the design phase (designing the course in which the new technology is to be incorporated), to the implementation phase (actually installing the new technology and testing it). Using this process will allow them to incorporate the new technology quickly and efficiently. The biggest downfall to the waterfall method is that once you go to the next step in the process, you cannot go back to the previous
